SUMMARY:Intuitive Weaving
DESCRIPTION:During the darker winter days\, it’s nice to have a meditative art practice to turn to to help you relax and practice mindfulness. Weaving can have a tangible outcome (like a wall hanging or placemat)\, or be purely for relaxation and play – without the pressure of outcomes. Either way\, it becomes a transcript of your mood and imagination. \nIn this 2 hour class\, we will learn the basics of weaving with little to no financial investment. Using a cardboard loom that we make ourselves and the provided materials\, we will go over basic weaving techniques. \nWe will let the materials guide us and see where they take us. Our intuition will lead us while we slow down our thoughts and enjoy the creative process. No prior weaving experience necessary!

SUMMARY:The Knitting Pilgrim
DESCRIPTION:Actor\, writer and knitter Kirk Dunn will be presenting his multidisciplinary one-man show\, The Knitting Pilgrim\, featuring the Stitched Glass tapestries\, at Harcourt United Church on Friday\, March 21st\, 2025 at 7:30PM. \nThe show\, which theatre critic Lynn Slotkin called “a stunning piece of theatre… glorious and so moving\,” combines personal storytelling\, image projection and three huge knitted panels\, designed in the style of stained-glass windows\, that look at the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic Faiths: Judaism\, Christianity\, and Islam. It recounts Kirk’s 15-year artistic and spiritual journey handknitting the ambitious project\, and looks at why the faiths struggle to get along today\, the meaning of art\, the hell of grant-writing and the power of love to overcome major obstacles (and minor mishaps). The show premiered at the Aga Khan Museum in 2019\, and has been performed to acclaim over 90 times in Canada\, Austria\, Germany\, and the United States. \nMore info here!

DESCRIPTION:March 22 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Guelph Museum \nJoin us for an enriching workshop with Lisa June Byers\, a Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional and award-winning designer. Byers\, of mixed Ojibwe\, Scottish\, and Irish ancestry\, is the creative force behind LJ Turtle Aromatherapy\, known for specialty aromatherapy blends and handcrafted essential oil diffuser accessories. \nIn this workshop\, you’ll learn to needle-felt a heart-shaped aromatherapy diffuser\, with all supplies provided. Byers will share insights on using your new felted heart as an effective aromatherapy diffuser. \nWhile creating your diffuser\, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about advocacy work to preserve residential school buildings as heritage sites or sites of conscience. Byers is passionate about this cause and has been actively involved in raising awareness and funds for the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford\, Ontario\, through her Mitigomin Social Enterprise\, which has raised over $34K to date. \nCOVID mitigation statement: As the presenter has pre-existing health conditions\, all attendees are asked to be mindful about ensuring everyone’s safety\, and to not attend if feeling unwell.
