DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 1th and 8th\, 11-2pm \nInstructor is David Caesar \nWe are now offering 2-week workshop version of our 5-week class! \nGreat for both beginner and intermediate students\, this technically thorough workshop will cover the basics of drawing from both life and photographs. From copying simple angles and shapes\, to understanding perspective\, the fundamentals of light and shadow\, this practical course will sharpen your skills in every area. We’ll also discuss composition and design and how these can convey different feelings and ideas. Dig in to the exciting process of drawing! \nMaterials:  A sketchbook\, size 11” x 14” minimum is recommended. Try to find something with smooth paper.  A 0.5 technical pencil is preferred\, but any old pencil will do. H and 2H leads are better. Ukulele is the focus of one of our instructors. Of course there will always be space and activities for our songwriters! (However\, if you are specifically looking for songwriting instruction\, we recommend our September weekend—Sept 12-14\, 2025.)\nAll our weekends aim to foster musical joy\, discovery\, connections\, delicious food\, and access to nature on the beautiful grounds of Ignatius Retreat Centre.\nYou do NOT need to know how to play an instrument or read music! SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Poem-Making from Place with Anna Swanson
DESCRIPTION:May 13.2025 6:00pm – 8:30pm\n\n\nLocation: The Boathouse Tea Room\, 116 Gordon St\, Guelph ON\nPrice: Free\nWalking as Remapping\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis walk invites participants to engage in an exploration of place through poetry. Inspired by the practice of ecological mapping and the work of writer Anna Swanson\, participants will use sight\, sound\, and texture as tools for gathering language from the world around us on this walk along the Speed and Eramosa Rivers. Throughout the walk\, landscape and cityscape will be observed not just as scenery\, but as layered texts: full of found language\, silences\, and ruptures. \nStarting and ending at the Covered Bridge steps by the Boathouse Tea Room\, this walk includes moments of observation\, note-taking\, and guided prompts that encourage poetic response. The poems created—individually and together—become a remapping of Guelph based on the sensory\, emotional\, and imagined textures of the city. No experience with poetry is required—just a willingness to walk\, to notice\, and to listen. Registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 20th\, 6:00pm -8:00pm\n\nCalling all fabric scraps!!\n\nThis workshop is all about slowing down and doing some hand stitching by using scraps of fabric and trim as your inspiration. \nWe will work on a fabric collage either on a piece of fabric that can be framed\, hung or used as a patch\, or directly onto your favourite garment (think jean jacket jazz-up). \nThe best thing about this is it uses up all the little scraps that crafters are often left with. We will go over some different sewing techniques and some embroidery stitches too. You can use this time to play\, tell a story with your work or just relax into some hand stitching. \nAll materials will be included!

This workshop is suitable for those that have little or no experience working with clay and have an interest in hand building. Students will learn a variety of techniques to create small to medium sized forms\, explore texture\, and an overview in underglaze painting techniques.
