SUMMARY:Reel Stories: Documentary Filmmaking for Youth (Grades 9-12)
DESCRIPTION:Reel Stories\, Ed Video’s documentary filmmaking program for youth returns this September with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers\, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. A group of youth participants (Grades 9-12) will meet for 8 sessions on a biweekly basis to create short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process\, building skills in scriptwriting\, conducting interviews\, smartphone and camera-based filmmaking\, lighting\, audio recording and editing\, while learning how professional-quality films can be created using accessible technology. \nSkills in communication\, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the program’s end in January\, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family\, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film. \nParents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in this free program are encouraged to email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions or accessibility concerns. Spaces are limited\, so early registration is recommended to secure a spot.

SUMMARY:Building Interactive Networks with TouchDesigner
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Kwasi Bugyei \nLearn to build live interactive and immersive networks using TouchDesigner\, a node based visual programming software\, in this 2-part workshop. \nExperience Level: Beginner \nIn Part 1\, participants will receive a comprehensive overview of TouchDesigners’ capabilities including:\n• 2D/3D basics\n• Motion Capture and Gesture Control\n• Projection Mapping Sensors and MIDI Service Inputs\n• AI \nIn Part 2\, participants will apply the skills they acquired in the previous session to create and present interactive and immersive advertisements\, environments and experiences for a mock agency. They will focus on creating networks for campaigns in the following industries:\n• Fashion\n• Food\n• Music\n• Live Performance\n• Tech Start Up and Mobile Apps ( social\, dating\, shopping)\n• Sports\n• Film and Broadcast Media\n• Travel and Tourism\n• Automotive\n• Education and Humanities. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have a foundational understanding of TouchDesigner networks\, along with templates and example builds that can be used for potential professional opportunities in UX/UI design and digital marketing. \nThis workshop requires a laptop with TouchDesigner and a scroll wheel mouse. Ed Video has a limited amount of laptops with TouchDesigner available for members to use. DESCRIPTION:Poetry As Medicine OCTOBER 6th\nBy Brent Klassen\nExplore the power of learning poems by heart.\nInspired by Kim Rosen’s book “Saved By A Poem”\, Brent took up the lost art of learning\npoetry by heart.\nIn this workshop\, he’ll talk a bit about the process of working with a poem\, gradually\ntaking it in until it lives in your heart\, where you can take it out whenever you need its\ncomfort or wisdom.\nFar from rote memorization\, this is about the healing power of words.\nParticipants will be invited to bring along a poem they’d like to learn (preferably written\nby someone else)\, and we’ll workshop the learning process together. \nThe 2026 Vocamus Writers Workshops: a series of workshops inspired by community\nand provided by local artists and editors for all writers at any stage of their craft.\nThe workshops are designed to:\n•adopt or further with innovative tools and sources an even more consistent writing\npractice\n•help participants relate to and better understand the characteristics of diverse genres\,\nsuch as poetry and nonfiction\n•understand the urgency of personal narratives in this day and age\n•be more resourceful and creative when facing stagnation or the dreaded blank page\n•discovering the intersectionality of diverse arts when adopting and improving a writing\npractice\n•create a plan to promote their work after finishing their manuscripts\n*and the opportunity for all of the above to converge into your next piece of writing.\nAll the Vocamus Writers Community Workshops will be provided at Vocamus Press: In\nthe adjacent building of First Baptist Church\, located on 255 Woolwich St\, Guelph\, ON\nN1H 3V8\nRegistration details: Send an email to vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com to\nregister for the specific workshop that you are interested in participating before the\nworkshop’s unique registration deadline.\nThat’s all! SUMMARY:Collective Stitching Session - “Call This What It Is”
DESCRIPTION:“Call This What It Is” is a permanent work in progress depicting the names of women and girls who have been the victims of femicide in Canada since 2020.  I am currently working the panels for 2021.\n\nThe Collaborative Stitching Session presents an opportunity for community members to participate in the stitching of the names for the 2021 panels.  It is an opportunity to sit in a safe space to reflect upon and possibly discuss the impact of violence against women and girls on the community at large as well as personally\, if you feel so inclined.  This is not a workshop or group counselling session.  The discussion and material may be triggering so it is important to check in with yourself and do only what you feel you’re able to. \n\n\nThe names stitched by participants during this session will be incorporated onto a panel as part of “Call This What It Is”.\n\n\nLed by artist Katie Tonetti\n\nProceeds will be donated to Women in Crisis.\n\nDonate Directly Here
