ART@ebar Call For Entry - ELEMENTAL

Many ancient cultures saw the world in terms of sacred elements – EARTH, FIRE, WATER, AIR, and AETHER (SPIRIT) - “essential for the survival of all living beings” (Persian philosopher Zarathustra (600-583 BC).

In Japan, these held further associations - Earth represented things that were solid. Water represented things that were liquid. Fire represented things that destroy. Air represented things that moved.

Others, by extension took those to the five senses: HEARING, TOUCH, SIGHT, TASTE, and SMELL. Modern chemistry sees the world through the elements of the Periodic Table – the Building Blocks of the Universe. We speak of the elements of The Good Life, of things we perceive as pure and simple, as necessities; and then of course there are the Elements of STYLE.

And you – what do you consider ELEMENTAL?
