Join us to welcome this body of work to our gallery and meet artist Eryn O'Neill. The exhibit will continue until May 26th, 2019 Eryn’s paintings study local urban landscape through the perspective of a runner. Being an engaged runner is essential to her practice; often the main method for collecting information for her paintings. Using running, she is aware how cities create pathways conducive to navigating on foot. The images are a direct response to the non-fixed perspective of a runner. Constantly in a state of heightened awareness, where she is looking isn’t from the perspective of a stationary observer, allowing for various perspectives and vantage points. The paintings are the product of months of repetitive outings, in all conditions, to gather enough information, visually and mentally, to create paintings suggestive of a figure navigating an environment. While Eryn’s paintings are completed in the studio without hazards such as vehicles, the images capture the experience of being in an active urban space. The exhibition, Reimagined Routes, uses images of seemingly familiar areas and passageways.
