Collectors dillemma 2019

The Collector’s Dilemma is an exciting fundraising event for Guelph Arts Council. The third annual event will be held on Thursday, March 26. This auction showcases fine art previously owned by local collectors. All profits benefit GAC, helping artists and arts organizations make Guelph an enriched place to live and work.

I had the good fortune of interviewing artist Nan Hogg, who helps to make contact with potential donors. She also arranges the presentation of the art collections for The Collector’s Dilemma. Nan explains how The Collector’s Dilemma is unique:

“Unlike most fundraising art auctions, we do not ask artists to donate their work. Instead, we ask for donations from art collectors who have purchased the works from their creators. After enjoying the piece for many years, these collectors may need to downsize their collection. Or perhaps they are moving to a smaller home. Or they simply need to free up wall space to add new pieces.

“The event will be held on March 26 from 6:30 – 10 pm. It is held in the Upper Canada Company Hall of the River Run Centre – a lovely gracious space where guests can enjoy a glass of wine or beer and delicious nibbles from a local caterer while they peruse the art on offer.

We anticipate having about 50 donated pieces. Most of these will be sold in a silent auction, which is always fun if there is competition for a particular piece. Fifteen or so of the more select and valuable pieces will be handled by an experienced auctioneer.”

The Collector’s Dilemma showcases a large variety of quality artwork of various media, styles, sizes and value. Oil, watercolour, and acrylic paintings and prints by well-known local artists are available. Attendees will enjoy mingling and bidding on the rich array of artwork in this beautiful setting.

By supporting The Collector’s Dilemma you will help us strengthen arts and culture in Guelph today and in the years to come.
