SUMMARY:Passionate Heart - POP-UP PRESENTATION
DESCRIPTION:With excitement and a touch of COVID induced apprehension \nPassionate Heart returns \nwith THREE casual POP-UP PRESENTATIONS \nto help us through what will hopefully be the last stage of recovery\n \nSunday September 5 1:30 pm  \n\nRESERVATIONS REQUIRED\nReservations at: passionateheartdance@gmail.com\n\n\n42 Quebec St.\, Guelph\nReservations Required\nDonations (CASH) will be gratefully accepted at the door or in advance by e-transfer to greenmichele31@gmail.com.\n\n\nFollowing our very successful fall 2020 COVID mini-presentations\, Suzette and I have continued to work in the studio.\nWe have created another new work ‘Smile’ to the music of Charlie Chaplin\, which voices what so many of us are feeling  – ‘Smile though your heart is breaking’. These have been truly challenging times and we hope you have reached the vaccine milestone in good health.\n\nSince Covid’s first shut-down in March 2020\, we have added many new works to our repertoire\, some which we premiered during our fall Covid mini-showings. These will be featured in the pop-up presentations along with existing works:\n\n\nTo Be Two – duet choreographed by David Earle\ncomposer: Peter Skoggard\nThis piece shows a deep and dependant interconnection between two people and their journey to self-identity.\n\nTatiana’s Lament – solo choreographed by Suzette\ncomposer: Peter Ostrousko\nA woman attempts to remember the beautiful moments of her relationship until the reality of the past forces her to acknowledge its darker side.\n\nVoyage of My Longing – solo choreographed by Michele\ncomposer: Henryk Mikolaj Górecki\n’The memory of you emerges from the night around me’     Pablo Neruda\nThree stages of grief – denial\, anger & acceptance\n\nSmile – duet choreographed by Suzette & Michele\ncomposer: Charlie Chaplin          musician: Madeleine Peyroux\nMore whimsical than most of our repertoire\, Smile depicts vignettes of melancholy moments.\n\nIn the Absence of Touch… – duet choreographed by Suzette & Michele\ncomposer: electronic score by Joel Green\nA journey through the emotions felt during the pandemic\, grieving the loss of touch and the eventual recovery to a new normal.\n\nWaltzing Matilda – duet based on movement and music from David Earle’s Maelstrom\, a much larger work choreographed in 1996\nTwo women remember the past\, engage in the present and\, perhaps\, move on.\ncomposer: Christina Macpherson          musician: Michael Thomas\n\n\nLetting Go – solo choreographed by Michele\n‘Was it not yesterday?’\nThe journey of mother and child.\ncomposer: J.S. Bach\, Cello suite #6 Sarabandemusician: Yo-Yo Ma\n \nEach informal pop-up presentation will consist of six pieces chosen from the new and existing repertoire followed by a short discussion. If you are interested in seeing a specific work\, please let us know and we will guide you to the correct presentation\, if possible.\n\nWe will continue to follow COVID protocols with a socially distanced audience of TEN people maximum. Masks are required. Suzette and I are both fully vaccinated.\n\nPresentations will be held at 42 Quebec St.\, Guelph (Guelph Youth Dance studio)\, 3rd floor. The studio is equipped with a HEPA filter and windows will be open prior to the presentation if weather permits.\nUpon receipt of reservations we will send further information on protocol and access.

SUMMARY:Online Workshop: Oh! Let Me Be Free – Dragonfly Beading Workshop with Naomi Smith
DESCRIPTION:Oh\, Let Me Be Free! is a one day virtual workshop led by Indigenous artist Naomi Smith\, who will guide you through the creation of a beaded dragonfly. The dragonfly pin is a scaled down miniature version of the dragonfly mask currently on view at the Art Gallery of Guelph in the exhibition Breathe. Designed and created by Smith\, the dragonfly motif is connected to both her childhood recollections and her respect for these beautiful winged beings. Traditional teaching will be part of the learning experience. \nWhile this workshop is for adults of all skill levels\, experience with hand sewing is recommended. Participants will learn various beading techniques often featured in Woodlands beadwork\, including double needle appliqué\, single bead edging and a variation of a two needle weave used to create the dragonfly’s charming little tail. \nThe kit provided will include all the materials you will require to complete the project including beading needles\, thread and sinew. Additional supplies and tools list will be provided prior to the workshop. \nNaomi Smith is an Indigenous artist and educator who has shared traditional teachings with various communities and groups for over 25 years. Her work focuses on the ways of the Indigenous people of the Great Lakes region from a historical and contemporary perspective\, often through the story of beads. Naomi’s artwork embraces ancestral designs using quillwork\, beadwork and other indigenous methods and materials. She has exhibited her work across Canada and internationally. \nArtist statement \n“Honouring our traditions is my voice within and beyond my Culture and Community. Traditionally there is no word for ‘art’ in Native languages yet artistry and visual expression are critical in defining who we are as Indigenous people. It is this path I wish to exemplify through my teachings and my work.” \nRegister now!

SUMMARY:Guelph Musicfest presents pianist Valerie Tryon
DESCRIPTION:Guelph Musicfest proudly presents world-renowned pianist Valerie Tryon in a program featuring Chopin’s great 24 Preludes. Born in England\, we are lucky that she made Canada her home. Her repertoire is vast and diverse. Although her particular reputation is for her interpretation of the Romantics — Chopin\, Liszt\, Rachmaninov and others\, she retains a lifelong and enduring passion for Debussy and Ravel. After the Chopin\, Valerie Tryon will talk about the Preludes and interpretative possibilities. She will also perform a selection of music that matches the spirit of Chopin\, including works by Debussy. Very limited reserved seating is available for fully-vaccinated patrons. Unlimited digital tickets for online viewing are available for FREE (or what you can afford).
