SUMMARY:Youth Open Mic Night
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nFor the Guelph Arts Council’s very first event in our new office\, our summer co-op student Claire is proud to be organizing a Youth Open Mic to give youth a platform to showcase their art and connect with other young artists in the Guelph community. Because it can be intimidating to perform and share your art with other people\, especially when you’re young\, Claire hopes this event will help youth gain confidence and connect with other young artists in the community. While acts are open to artists ages 18 and under\, all ages are welcome and encouraged to come and watch the show. The event is open to a variety of art forms whether it be music\, spoken word\, visual art\, monologues or more. \nClick here to Register and/or RSVP! \n  \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Long Dash Festival
DESCRIPTION:July 26–27 | 10 AM–3 PM
at rare Slit Barn & ECO Centre\, Cambridge\, ON \nJoin rare and Musagetes for the second annual Long Dash Festival\, a collaborative event bringing together the worlds of art and science. At the rare Slit Barn and ECO Centre\, you will find a series of programs over two days that explore the interconnections and overlaps between arts and science while showcasing the talents of various artists\, musicians\, naturalists and scientists. An immersive two‑day celebration of creativity and curiosity\, this event brings together artists\, naturalists\, scientists\, and community members in a shared exploration of the interconnected relationships with land\, water\, and the more-than-human world. \nWhy the Long Dash?\nThe Long Dash Skipper\, Polites mystic\, is a brown and orange butterfly found in grassy habitats like meadows\, marshes\, stream banks and forest edges including on rare lands. Named after a butterfly like its sister programs – the Eastern Comma Artist in Residence and the Question Mark Fellowship – the Long Dash Festival also brings to mind punctuation\, in this case em-dashes though also perhaps en-dashes and hyphens\, all marks of connection that bring two parts into relationship with each other. \nSimilarly\, the Long Dash Festival brings together the worlds of art and science—as well as those of Musagetes and rare—to explore what happens in the overlap. \nAll activities are free to attend. Please note that registration is required for certain activities as supplies are limited.  Submitting an RSVP to other activities will help us determine numbers. \nClick here for schedule of programs\, and to RSVP by activity \n

SUMMARY:Printing in the Park: Liberation Quilt
DESCRIPTION:Wild Queer Abolitionist Collective invites you to their upcoming Art Jam Gathering.\nThis event is completely free\, and everyone is welcome\, no previous art experience is necessary! This event is a drop in\, so come for as long as you would like to stay! WQAC will have snacks\, water\, and masks\, creative prompts and some printing materials available. A friendly reminder to bring any food/snacks\, (nut-free please)\, drinks\, blankets\, seating and other supplies (hats\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, etc.) that would make you feel most comfortable outdoors!  \nThe vision for this Art Jam is to block print on individual squares of fabric to create a Liberation Quilt – this art form has been deeply rooted in community practice and collective resistance\, stemming from the AIDs movement and one that has been recently used by artists and organizers in the US and Canada for Palestine and Women Against Police Brutality. What WQAC hopes for this gathering is to come together with our community to not only socialize and build relationships with one another\, but to share\, create\, and express our feelings on what could/should/would abolitionist dissent and creativity look like in Guelph and the Tri Cities.
