SUMMARY:An Obituary\, Carmen Mattear Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:May 18th – June 1st\n  \n“This body of work is a collection that archives nostalgia\, bringing to light the past life of personal artifacts and the disconnect between sound and source. Each piece lacks a body – representing the person\, place or memory from my childhood and adolescence\, when I was living within a family unit. The pieces work as a means to grieve my experience living at home\, being cared for and feeling safe. I pay these memories tribute and offer them as an obituary. I’ve titled the body of work An Obituary. But it is by no means a depressing one\, it is one filled with ridiculous conversations\, singing in the car\, being sung to sleep\, and filleting fish at the cottage\, above all it is an obituary of gratitude.”\n\n\nCarmen Mattear (born 2000) is a multidisciplinary artist who collects media as data and finds patterns through method\, and are then translated and expressed as sound installation\, sculpture\, video\, and VR. Her practice is informed by cinema\, music\, television\, and family relations. For Mattear\, art is about creating organized chaos\, in which anecdotes emerge\, revealing our positive humanism. Mattear currently lives in Guelph\, ON and holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours\, with Distinction\, in Studio Art from the University of Guelph\, where she also completed a minor in Psychology.\nOpening reception Thursday\, June 1st from 6-8pm

SUMMARY:DEPARTURES - The Space Left Behind
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE RESERVE SOON!\nReservations: passionateheartdance@gmail.com\n\n\nSuzette Sherman and Michele Green will celebrate their final two presentations of Passionate Heart in a special collaboration with author and performer Linda E. Clarke. DEPARTURES will offer two dances from the Passionate Heart repertoire along with a retrospective created in collaboration with Linda’s vivid and personal stories.\n\nPassionate Heart and Linda collaborated in March 2022 to present This is not a Fairytale… and they are thrilled to once again combine movement with stories of departures\, wound together with the beautiful music of Ludovico Einaudi.\n\n\nLinda brings thirty years of hearing stories\, telling stories\, writing stories\, and teaching stories to this collaboration. She believes that telling a story is an act of generosity\, receiving a story is a fundamental act of hospitality. It’s how we connect with one another.\n\n\n\n\nIn 2017\, Suzette coaxed Michele out of retirement to join forces for a performance at the Guelph Dance Festival. This led to the formation of Passionate Heart in 2018 and\, during the next five years\, they built a repertoire of fourteen works created by themselves and David Earle\, performing in many locations in Southern Ontario. In September 2022\, Passionate Heart was invited to La Roche D’Hys in France to present three performances and two workshops. The two presentations of DEPARTURES will bring the total number of performances to 50.\n\n\n\n“The Passionate Heart experience and our decision to perform in an intimate studio environment to small audiences has been a transformative journey for us. The connection we have felt with those in attendance (even when masked!) has been more than we could ever have imagined. We are very grateful for those who have given their heartfelt comments and continued support throughout this journey. We are truly blessed.” – Michele & Suzette\n\n\nIf you would like to support the work of Passionate Heart\, donations large and small are gratefully accepted by e-transfer to greenmichele31@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Feminist Spring Sip & Shop Market at Royal City Brewing Co.
DESCRIPTION:Vendor Applications close on April 22\, 2023.\n\nVendor Application: https://forms.gle/fFQukPzjBMA35tbJ7\nVolunteer Form: https://forms.gle/wUmwmFqHNRJPTKKDA\n\nAlternative application formats are available\, please email feministcreatives@gmail.com to inquire.\n\nWhen and Where? \nDate: Sunday\, May 21\nTime: 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM\nLocation: Royal City Brewing Company\nAddress: 199 Victoria Rd S\, Guelph ON\nEntrance Fee: PWYC (suggested $3)\n\nPlease wear a mask to protect our community!\n\nWhat is the Feminist Market?\nThe Feminist Market aims to help chip away at dismantling the patriarchy by creating accessible spaces that support marginalized creatives\, makers\, community organizations\, charities and feminist allies.\nWe aim to create a hub of intersectional feminism\, community\, and activism!\n\nAccessibility Info\nThere is a large curb in front of the venue. There is a ramp and accessible parking spot near the U-Haul rental facility. You are also able to enter through the rear entrance of the brewery on York Road\, there will be an accessible spot marked with a pylon.\nWe aim to create a navigable space within the market for those who use mobility aids.\n\nWe will also have earplugs available at the event for those who are sensitive to sound or have sensory processing issues. \n\nIf you have a question or suggestion regarding accessibility please email us at feministcreatives@gmail.com as we are always looking for ways to improve.\n\n Volunteers\nIf you are interested in volunteering at the market\, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/wUmwmFqHNRJPTKKDA\n\nAbout the Market & Organizer\nThe idea for an inclusive and diverse market was born out of Siyobin’s passion for putting her politics into practice and led to the actualization of an event that she had dreamed of for years.\nAs a queer\, disabled maker of colour who had frequented many vendor markets\, she had noticed a distinct lack of diversity and focus on support of the artisans at these events. This was very disappointing to her\, so she decided to run the first Feminist Holiday Market in 2017 and create a community centered space. In 2019\, Siyobin Blanco was awarded the Queerator of Arts & Culture Award\, from the Guelph Pride Committee\, for her feminist markets and live performance shows.\n\nPlease email feministcreatives@gmail.com for media inquiries.\n\nFollow the Feminist Events by Siyobin to stay connected for upcoming markets & shows\nwww.facebook.com/feministevents\nwww.instagram.com/feministevents

SUMMARY:SILENCE PRESENTS: NINA PLATIŠA – ZA KLAVIR
DESCRIPTION:Doors 3:45pm \nStart 4pm \n$15/PWYC \nZa Klavir: For The Piano is a collection of 26 original compositions that blend minimal\, contemporary\, classical roots with elements of Balkan folk. \nThe collection merges traditional and contemporary elements. The six winter days spent recording the album crystallized for Nina the guiding force of its maturation: to weave together a sense of belonging from the disparate sources of inspiration and influence from which she draws. \nIt is in music she comes closest to finding a sense of belonging – especially when seated at her piano bench. \nThis project benefits from the generous support of Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. \nWebsite: ninaplatisa.com\nInstagram: @nina.platisa\nBandcamp: ninaplatisa.bandcamp.com
