SUMMARY:Composition – Let’s Break The Rules!  Mon. Feb 26\, 2024 – Online class
DESCRIPTION:Composition – Let’s Break The Rules!\nOnline class\, live via Zoom\nMonday\, Feb. 26. 6:30 to 9:00 pm EDT\nAges 16+ \nRating: Beginner to advanced. \nInstructor:  Sylvia Galbraith \nComposition…  a concept that often seems to include rigid rules and standard ways of arranging the elements in your photograph.  Are your photographs ordinary rather than exceptional?  Does your work look like everyone else’s? How is it that any two people might interpret a scene in a completely different ways\, and is one more “correct” than the other? How do we evaluate our own photographs to determine if they are successful beyond our own sentimental opinion? \nSo many questions\, but this workshop will help you find the answers! We’ll look at unusual ways to compose your scene\, considering object placement\, edges/borders and framing\, creating depth\, and more.  By examining the work of renowned photographers\, we’ll determine why their images stand out.  Taught live via Zoom\, we’ll also play with some practical exercises during the class to get the creative mind working\, and students will have access to the class recording for one month. \nFee: $95.00 + HST \n Register Online or call 519-787-7040 to register by phone.

SUMMARY:Autoscopy Sophia Oppel Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Solo Exhibition by Sophia Oppel presented by Ed Video Media Arts Centre from February 24th – March 22nd. ‘ \n“As biometric capture and datafication are increasingly required to access our digitized surround\, bodies are rendered knowable and transparent by corporate entities. Autoscopy continues Oppel’s investigation into the implications of bodily transparency and the hostile affirmation leveraged by late-stage capitalism. Autoscopy is a spatial video installation\, coalescing around a terminal built to replicate the shape of a commercial 3D scanning booth\, and affixed with laser-cut 2-way mirror. The projected imagery of two videos refract through this mirrored enclosure\, oscillating between portrayals of a body as a faulty collection of 3D scans and CGI anatomical models in varying states of layered visibility. In a narrative voice-over that merges intimate poesis with body horror\, the process of being 3D scanned is described as erotic\, invasive\, and yet depersonalizing.”

SUMMARY:Marketing & Selling a Screenplay
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Heather Wright \nSelling a screenplay can be even more challenging than writing one\, but with knowledge and the right tools\, it is possible to take a written script to the big screen. This online workshop provides participants with a deeper understanding of the film industry as well as practical tips for getting your screenplay . Topics include: copyright\, loglines\, how to find producers\, query letters and more. Whether you have a completed screenplay or just an idea\, this workshop can equip you with the skills needed to take your story to the next level. \nHeather Wright has spent over 20 years as a freelancer/copywriter and many other years as a high school English teacher\, college Business Communications instructor\, amateur director and actor\, and office temp. (Yes\, she can still write shorthand.) Looking for some mental escape during a lengthy editing gig\, Heather attended a webinar about writing Hallmark-style films. Heather wrote her first screenplay in autumn 2020\, and in summer 2022\, she optioned her first script\,  A Cowboy Christmas. It was filmed in March 2023 in Maple Creek\, Saskatchewan and shown on Crackle in the U.S. at holiday time. Heather continues to write and pitch her scripts and is happy to share what she has learned from her own experience and her research.  \nPlease email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions\, accessibility needs and to register.

SUMMARY:Art and Wellness: Stories as a Nurse and a Nomad
DESCRIPTION:Join the AGG Volunteer Association as they welcome Renata Mares for a talk and presentation about the impact of artistic exploration on health\, healing\, and wellbeing. \nAvailable in person AND online (register for Zoom webinar above)! \nJoin the AGG Volunteer Association as they welcome Renata Mares for a talk and presentation on February 22\, at 1 pm. An AGG volunteer\, Renata works as an adaptation consultant and nurse educator. With a focus on public health\, Renata has been committed to assessing and improving the way the Canadian healthcare system functions and supports its workers\, especially nurses\, in the face of a healthcare crisis and pandemic. With a career that has taken her to four continents and thirty countries\, she lived and worked in Nunavut and the Yukon between 2015 and 2020\, a residency that transformed how she thinks about creative practice and wellbeing\, art and science. \nLiving within Inuit communities and engaging in community projects offered Renata direct engagement with artists in the North and their work across varied media\, as well as a deeper appreciation of the personal and social roles art plays. Living among northern communities also allowed Renata to build conversations with artists\, collecting not only art\, but stories of their motivation. Renata will speak about these experiences that have shaped her insight into building trust and resilience among individuals and communities\, as well as the profound impact of artistic exploration on health\, healing\, and wellbeing. \nJoin in person at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, or virtually on Zoom.
