SUMMARY:Book Bash 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Book Bash Festival is an annual celebration of the books published by Guelph and area authors over the previous year. The event is presented by Vocamus Writers Community. \nThis year\, it will be held on Sunday November 3\, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM\, at the Guelph Farmers’ Market. \nOver thirty authors will be in attendance to sell their books\, chat with attendees\, and sign copies. The authors will be joined by many of Guelph’s micro-presses\, bookstores\, libraries\, cultural groups\, and literacy organizations\, all the people who help make up our great local book culture. \nThere will also be storytelling and free books for children\, a leave-a-book-take-a-book table\, a book composting demonstration\, food and refreshments for sale\, live music\,gift wrapping\, and other fun! \nThere is no cost for the event\, but donations will be accepted for Action Read\, a local charity that provides literacy programs in the community. \n“As a writer\, I’ve participated at the Book Bash each time I have new work to share. No\, it is not a\nFahrenheit 451 style destruction of radical writing\, nor is it a standard book sale. The actual authors\nstaff the tables. The atmosphere is celebratory\, and the wares are unique. There’s nothing more\nfulfilling for me\, as the author\, to be able to explain my book and meet readers who have enjoyed my\nprevious publications. Whether I’m meeting someone new\, or a repeat supporter of my work\, the\nafternoon is energizing. Also\, as an avid reader myself\, I enjoy the interaction from both sides of the\ntable\, and always return home with books from my colleagues.” \nMarion Reidel \n

DESCRIPTION:“Valdy remains one of the country’s purest and most credible storytellers.”\nToronto Star \nMusic at the Hall is proud to present Valdy\, one of Canada’s most renowned folk singers\, on Saturday\, November 2 at 7:00 pm at the Eden Mills Community Hall. Please note 7 pm start time! Please book in advance at https://www.edenmills.ca/calendar \n“A man of formidable talents” (Charlottetown Evening Patriot) Valdy has been singing\, recording and touring for more than 50 years. In fact\, his Eden Mills performance is part of a breath-taking national tour this season that takes him from Newfoundland to British Columbia. \nValdy was born Paul-Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa. His career as a singer/songwriter and guitarist has taken him around the world. He is especially remembered for ‘Play Me a Rock and Roll Song’\, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself\, a relaxed and amiable story-teller\, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968. \nSince then he has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums\, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year)\, a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit. He is a member of the Order of Canada\, a musician “as generous as he is talented who performs frequently at charity events and is a long-time advocate of literacy in Canada.” \nValdy songs include ‘A Good Song’ (notably performed by Quincy Jones under the title ‘Just a Man’)\, ‘Peter & Lou’\, ‘Yes I Can’\, ‘Renaissance’\, and ‘Sonny’s Dream.’ His recent CDs include ‘Contenders’\, a collaboration with friend and fellow singer/songwriter\, Gary Fjellgaard\, and a solo release ‘Viva Valdy: Live at Last’\, a two-CD package\, one live\, one studio\, with a total of 25 tunes. \nMusic at the Hall programs concerts and events to keep the village of Eden Mills hopping\, and to raise funds for Community Hall operations. The heritage Hall is known for its excellent acoustics and dance floor. The Hall is also proud to be carbon neutral!
