SUMMARY:Sally Wismer Gallery Solo Show Opening Reception: Curious\, Andi Syme
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception July 14th 6pm-8pm \nJULY 4th– AUGUST 25th 2026 \nGallery hours: Tue to Wed\, 10am to 4pm \nThe structures we live in pose an ongoing challenge to finding comfort in our bodies. Despite this\, comfort regrows out of warm and soft spaces\, where we are able to imagine and regenerate. \nWithin the desaturated planes\, figures bond and interact with a sense of freedom\, play\, or absurdity. Reflecting the nuance of finding joy and euphoria through their historical bodies\, the figures continue to dance in their plurality\, recognizing the fuel joy gifts in upholding resiliency. Their boundless bodies bloom\, reshape\, and rework their assumed limits\, harvesting with them grit\, flexibility\, and connection. Inviting you into their curious world\, the interwoven figures play in the environment of uncertainty\, open to surprise and new constructions of self. \nAndi Syme (they/ them) is an interdisciplinary visual artist. Syme graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA(Honours) in Studio Art and Sexualities\, Genders and Social Change. With focus on figures in community\, they expressively explore autobiographical themes of neuro-queer and trans* identity\, community\, and safe spaces. Syme primarily works through charcoal drawings on soft domestic objects to share joy and understanding.

SUMMARY:Sacred Circles\, an exploration of Sacred Geometry and Mandala Art by Barbara McKell
DESCRIPTION:Show Runs July 8th – August 2nd \nArtist Reception July 11th\, 3-5pm \nBarbara McKell is a visionary artist specializing in unique Mandala Art. \nArtists Statement: As a Visionary Artist\, I work with watercolour\, ink\, and acrylic to create Mandala paintings and Soul Portraits that invite viewers to journey beyond the tangible world into the metaphysical and spiritual realms. For me\, art is a sacred practice\, a pathway to self discovery and healing that deepens as I connect to the inner voice of wisdom guiding my work. In each piece\, I aim to redefine perspectives offering a visual language that transcends established thought and opens the door to a more expansive reality. \nMy mandalas are expressions of the soul’s symbolic language\, created through a blend of inner vision and artistic technique. My artwork is infused with elements of sacred geometry\, symbolic patterns\, and the natural energies of crystals\, plants\, and totems\, imbuing them with healing potential. The interplay of these influences\, along with vibrant colours and organic forms\, invites a sense of unity that lingers. \nLearn more on the Ground Floor Art’s website

SUMMARY:In the Neighbourhood: Improv Fun & Fundamentals (Drop-in Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Drop in on our weekly Wednesday workshops!\nOur ‘In the Neighbourhood’ workshops are a great opportunity to learn about and practice improv right here in our own backyard! Literally! The good ol’ backyard is where we started teaching our classes and it’s where we like to practice improv in the summers. It is located in the area of the Victoria Rd and York Rd intersection in Guelph. \nIn these workshops we’ll use discussions\, exercises and scenework to play with this wonderful artform of improv theatre. \nThe Fun & Fundamentals workshops are for all experience levels. If you’ve never tried improv\, this is your chance to dip a toe (or cannonball). If you’re a seasoned pro\, you know much fun and helpful it is to meet new players and groups with different styles. With many decades of performing and teaching experience between them (and within some alone) the Friendly Heretics are eager to lead you and learn with you. \nWe reserve the backyard address for confirmed attendants. Once you register\, we will give you the deets with joy. \nRegister here! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/in-the-neighbourhood-improv-fun-fundamentals-tickets-1992529123245 \nWe happily lead the workshops for free\, and we will also accept any donations to put toward renting warm spaces in the winter. You are welcome either way! \nWe’re excited about the growing improv community in Guelph. Come on out and enjoy!

SUMMARY:Helen Martin speaks at Royal City Quilters Guild
DESCRIPTION:Quilts and Their Stories\n\nRoyal City Quilters’ Guild’s own Helen Martin’s love of vintage/antique quilts began when her mother gave her wedding quilt to Helen and her its story. This was also the beginning of Helen’s hobby collecting quilts\, blocks and tops from the early 1800s\, four-block quilts from the 1870s\, crazy quilts from the late 1800s\, red work quilts from the 1920\,  and the beautiful 1930s quilts up to quilts she has made. \nVisit https://rcqg.square.site to purchase a $10 guest pass. You may credit this purchase towards your membership fee later. \n\n\nHelen’s Bio\nHelen began quilting in approximately 1965. Her mother made a quilt for our wedding in 1963 and had used the good corners of old flannelette sheets for filler. Then she discovered polyester batting and the tiny quilting stitches she make using it. She took our quilt apart and I helped her re-quilt it. This was Helen’s first attempt at quilting and she loved it. Helen has been quilting ever since.
