SUMMARY:Pronto Plate Lithography Workshop at Otherwise Studios
DESCRIPTION:Learn traditional lithography techniques on an intaglio press using the pronto plate lithography method during this 2-part workshop\, May 16 & 23! \nLearn how to create an image\, work with greasy & oil-sensitive materials when creating artwork\, how to affix your image on your pronto plate\, and print an edition of prints to take home. \nLithography is a printmaking process based on the concept that oil and water don’t mix. The printmaker draws or paints using oily materials\, onto a flat stone\, prepared metal plate\, or polyester plate. This image is made “permanent” through a series of chemical reactions and then printed using oil-based ink. The pronto plate method is a safer method without the harmful chemicals required for traditional stone lithography. \nTo ensure willing participants have access to educational opportunities\, please email Ahmri at info@otherwisestudios.com if you face financial barriers. Space permitting\, we can provide complimentary spots in this workshop.

SUMMARY:Artworks Gallery Guelph: The Space Between Art Show.
DESCRIPTION:ARTWORKS GALLERY GUELPH \n404 YORK ROAD \nGUELPH\,  ONTARIO \nMAY 6 – JULY 7\, 2024 \nWhat is “the space between”? For some it’s the distance between two objects. For others\, it’s the concept of negative space. And for yet others\, it’s the emotional distance between two people. Drop by Artworks Gallery Guelph (404 York Road) to see how our gallery artists have explored this theme. Patti Collins is presenting her sculptures in light along with highly textured abstract paintings. Scenes of nature and waterscapes have captured the imagination of chalk pastel artist\, Suzanne Wakefield. Nancy Farrell ‘s dramatic abstracts create splashes of colour and movement\, with themes of   outer space and bucolic forest paths. Sharyn Seibert has pushed boundaries by creating a glass and canvas installation as well as reminisces around travel and beloved countries.  We are also excited to showcase the work of Kate Rogers\, our Featured Artist who has installed a series of 6 paintings that investigate her development from childhood beliefs to a present reality of confidence and artistic fervour. This collection  has been one of the most challenging shows to date and we’d love for you to visit.  We are open daily from 10am to 4pm. \n

SUMMARY:Big Ideas Lecture and Exhibition Launch: What Remains
DESCRIPTION:Launching the ArtsEverywhere festival organized and presented by Musagetes\, join the artists of the El Paso-based What Remains Collective (Dr. Adriana Alvarez\, Iris Morales\, Mabel Weber\, and Monica Lozano) for a guided conversation about documenting the stories of immigrant families as well as the belongings abandoned by individuals over the course of attempts to cross the political border into the United States. \nThe conversation will be followed by an opening reception for the collective’s exhibition What Remains at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, that brings together photography\, video\, and La Trenza – an evolving installation that braids together the belongings and stories of humans in transit\, immigrants\, asylum seekers\, displaced families\, men\, women\, and children who have experienced the journey of crossing a border\, from the heavily militarized to the nearly invisible. Representing individual experiences through the objects they carry with them\, this piece is made of materials recovered from the desert of Ciudad Juarez that were found half buried. \nImage detail: Monica Lozano\, The Cemetery\, 2022\, detail\, digital photograph. DESCRIPTION:MEMORY FOAM: A RETURN TO FORM\, AND MAKING SENSE OF A MUDDLED PAST \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nShow 8pm\n$20/PWYC\n\nKevin Unstruck is non-binary\, pansexual\, neoshamanic artist born into the Black\, West Indian diaspora. Their work takes them both to the stage with spoken word and hip-hop-inspired performances and into community organizations helping to create supportive anti-oppressive environments. They also work toward reimagining socio-economic systems in ways that center love and care through their corporate partnership\, Second Wind Solutions. Being a poet is central to Kevin’s experience of life. It breathes magic into the ordinary\, speaks somatically from their connection to Land\, World\, and Universe\, and teases mysteries loose with alchemical wordplay truly understood solely by bees\, cats\, and the oddest of humans.\nBuy Kevin’s book: https://www.publicationstudio.biz/books/sublingual-syllabus/
