SUMMARY:Brita Nelson presents Making Magic: A Disappearing Block Sampler Quilt
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Brita Nelson\nCost: $ 60\nDate: Saturday\, May 4\, 2024 from 10:30 to 4:30 pm [Eastern]\nLocation: Online via Zoom\nWebsite: https://questioningquilter.com/\nPre-class Prep: Purchase pattern at questioningquilter.com. Use royal discount code for 10% off pattern price. Download pre-class instructions & supply list\n\n \nVirtual Workshop Description\n \n\nThis 6-hour workshop will be structured similar to a “sew along”. There are 9 blocks and Brita will teach each one in turn. She has 2 cameras\, one on her and the sewing machine and one pointing straight down at the cutting mat and pressing surface. She will demonstrate how to make the block along with little tips on accurate piecing and pressing. The students will then follow along and take turns showing the class how their block came out. The Zoom features allow Brita to answer questions immediately and help anyone who might be having a little trouble. As some students finish before others\, she will show other possible layouts and talk about things like how to enlarge the pattern\, or use different colors and how these blocks might look in a finished quilt.\n\n \nInstructor Bio\n \n\nIn April of 2017\, Brita retired from work\, moved back to PA and devoted herself to serious quilting and sharing her passion for quilting. She is well-known for her YouTube videos on disappearing blocks.

SUMMARY:Big Ideas Lecture and Exhibition Launch: What Remains
DESCRIPTION:Launching the ArtsEverywhere festival organized and presented by Musagetes\, join the artists of the El Paso-based What Remains Collective (Dr. Adriana Alvarez\, Iris Morales\, Mabel Weber\, and Monica Lozano) for a guided conversation about documenting the stories of immigrant families as well as the belongings abandoned by individuals over the course of attempts to cross the political border into the United States. \nThe conversation will be followed by an opening reception for the collective’s exhibition What Remains at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, that brings together photography\, video\, and La Trenza – an evolving installation that braids together the belongings and stories of humans in transit\, immigrants\, asylum seekers\, displaced families\, men\, women\, and children who have experienced the journey of crossing a border\, from the heavily militarized to the nearly invisible. Representing individual experiences through the objects they carry with them\, this piece is made of materials recovered from the desert of Ciudad Juarez that were found half buried. \nImage detail: Monica Lozano\, The Cemetery\, 2022\, detail\, digital photograph. SUMMARY:MEMORY FOAM: A RETURN TO FORM\, AND MAKING SENSE OF A MUDDLED PAST
DESCRIPTION:MEMORY FOAM: A RETURN TO FORM\, AND MAKING SENSE OF A MUDDLED PAST \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nShow 8pm\n$20/PWYC\n\nKevin Unstruck is non-binary\, pansexual\, neoshamanic artist born into the Black\, West Indian diaspora. Their work takes them both to the stage with spoken word and hip-hop-inspired performances and into community organizations helping to create supportive anti-oppressive environments. They also work toward reimagining socio-economic systems in ways that center love and care through their corporate partnership\, Second Wind Solutions. Being a poet is central to Kevin’s experience of life. It breathes magic into the ordinary\, speaks somatically from their connection to Land\, World\, and Universe\, and teases mysteries loose with alchemical wordplay truly understood solely by bees\, cats\, and the oddest of humans.\nBuy Kevin’s book: https://www.publicationstudio.biz/books/sublingual-syllabus/

SUMMARY:Making Photos 3D: Camera Mapping in Blender
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Chris Fast \nWhat is camera mapping? It is rebuilding the 3D geometry of a photo and then projecting that photo texture onto the 3D geometry. It’s a cost effective and simple way to recreate a real life scene or object in 3D (or\, with AI\, anything you can imagine!)\, and it’s a fundamental technique of modern VFX. \nAfter going over the beginner basics of navigation and manipulation in Blender\, participants will begin the camera mapping journey which includes projecting a photo texture onto a 2D sign and mapping textures onto cuboid shaped models. Using open source program fspy\, participants will then learn to perfectly calculate the camera perspective of an interior scene\, import it into Blender\, make the geometry of the scene\, and then project the image onto the geometry to create a neat little scene! \nParticipants will need a laptop or computer\, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of Blender. Ed Video has a limited amount of laptops available for members to use during the workshop. Please email workshops@edvideo.org if you wish to use one. \nEmail workshops@edvideo.org with any questions and/or accessibility needs.
