SUMMARY:SILENCE PRESENTS: NINA PLATIŠA – ZA KLAVIR
DESCRIPTION:Doors 3:45pm \nStart 4pm \n$15/PWYC \nZa Klavir: For The Piano is a collection of 26 original compositions that blend minimal\, contemporary\, classical roots with elements of Balkan folk. \nThe collection merges traditional and contemporary elements. The six winter days spent recording the album crystallized for Nina the guiding force of its maturation: to weave together a sense of belonging from the disparate sources of inspiration and influence from which she draws. \nIt is in music she comes closest to finding a sense of belonging – especially when seated at her piano bench. \nThis project benefits from the generous support of Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. \nWebsite: ninaplatisa.com\nInstagram: @nina.platisa\nBandcamp: ninaplatisa.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:DEPARTURES - The Space Left Behind
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE RESERVE SOON!\nReservations: passionateheartdance@gmail.com\n\n\nSuzette Sherman and Michele Green will celebrate their final two presentations of Passionate Heart in a special collaboration with author and performer Linda E. Clarke. DEPARTURES will offer two dances from the Passionate Heart repertoire along with a retrospective created in collaboration with Linda’s vivid and personal stories.\n\nPassionate Heart and Linda collaborated in March 2022 to present This is not a Fairytale… and they are thrilled to once again combine movement with stories of departures\, wound together with the beautiful music of Ludovico Einaudi.\n\n\nLinda brings thirty years of hearing stories\, telling stories\, writing stories\, and teaching stories to this collaboration. She believes that telling a story is an act of generosity\, receiving a story is a fundamental act of hospitality. It’s how we connect with one another.\n\n\n\n\nIn 2017\, Suzette coaxed Michele out of retirement to join forces for a performance at the Guelph Dance Festival. This led to the formation of Passionate Heart in 2018 and\, during the next five years\, they built a repertoire of fourteen works created by themselves and David Earle\, performing in many locations in Southern Ontario. In September 2022\, Passionate Heart was invited to La Roche D’Hys in France to present three performances and two workshops. The two presentations of DEPARTURES will bring the total number of performances to 50.\n\n\n\n“The Passionate Heart experience and our decision to perform in an intimate studio environment to small audiences has been a transformative journey for us. The connection we have felt with those in attendance (even when masked!) has been more than we could ever have imagined. We are very grateful for those who have given their heartfelt comments and continued support throughout this journey. We are truly blessed.” – Michele & Suzette\n\n\nIf you would like to support the work of Passionate Heart\, donations large and small are gratefully accepted by e-transfer to greenmichele31@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Derek Edwards – In Praise of the Ostrich
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Shantero Productions \nWith ‘In Praise of the Ostrich’ Derek Edwards moseys back into town on horse-drawn comedy wagon; a searing meander down life’s twisting trails\, steered effortfully by this 30-year veteran. He returns with a payload of blissfully funny personal stories – a cacophony of shenanigans – set to tickle the ribs and warm the heart. \nWith an easy conversational style\, Derek reluctantly pulls his head out of the sand and launches into commentary on the influx of pot stores\, self-driving cars\, gambling tips\, the challenge of staying youthful … plus dressing warm. \nFrom Vegas to St. John’s\, this Just For Laughs veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite. Certainly his peers think so\, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee\, and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards\, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy. As Rick Mercer says\, “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.” \nClearly the critics agree: “5 STARS – the funniest man on earth” – Winnipeg Free Press; “4 STARS – the crowd howled” – Victoria Times Colonist; “still the funniest man in Canada” – Toronto Sun; “Edwards reigns as the King of Canadian comedy” – Charlottetown Guardian; “Derek Edwards is hysterical” – Calgary Sun; “Edwards takes stand-up to next stage” – Georgia Straight; “the epitome of timing & storytelling” – Halifax Chronicle Herald; “the comedian’s comedian” – London Free Press. \n‘In Praise of the Ostrich’ – Derek Edwards’ new 90-minute stand-up comedy show… a richly textured and enthralling ‘cut above\,’ delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian Comedian. Down to earth\, lots of laughs\, wagons ho. \nEveryone must have a ticket\, including children. Infants will not be admitted during this event. \nNo refunds for this event.
