Andante un poco mosso; Rebecca Clark Piano Trio\, 1st mvt. Moderato ma appassionato; Dinuk Wijeratne Love Triangle (2013\, written for the Gryphon Trio); Dvořák Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor\, Op. 65 (B.130) \nThe endlessly inventive Gryphon Trio has captivated international audiences for over 30 years with dynamic\, deeply expressive performances. Recognized among the world’s leading piano trios\, the Gryphon bridges tradition and innovation with repertoire spanning European classicism to 21st-century multimedia\, redefining chamber music for today. \nTheir discography of 22 acclaimed recordings on Analekta\, Ondine\, and Naxos includes works by Haydn\, Mozart\, Beethoven\, Schubert\, Mendelssohn\, Dvořák\, Ravel\, Shostakovich\, and Piazzolla\, as well as by contemporary composers such as Valentin Silvestrov\, Christos Hatzis\, and Kelly-Marie Murphy. Broken Hearts and Madmen\, a genre-defying album with vocalist Patricia O’Callaghan\, blends Leonard Cohen\, Nick Drake\, and traditional Latin songs. The Trio’s recordings have garnered numerous accolades\, including three Junos. An ensemble-in-residence at Music Toronto for more than 25 years\, the Gryphon Trio performs extensively throughout North America and Europe. Their commitment to artistic innovation has produced over 100 commissioned works\, numerous multimedia works and resulted in collaborations with a long list of musicians and artists from other fields. A landmark achievement\, Constantinople—a multimedia work conceived by composer Christos Hatzis and created with a remarkable theatrical production team—was presented across North America and at London’s Royal Opera House. More recently\, the Trio produced Echo – Memories of the World\, in collaboration with a team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists. Also featuring singer Marion Newman and actor Cheri Maracle\, Echo is a powerful multimedia work that positions artists as custodians of shared heritage\, giving voice to memories and histories that have too often been marginalized\, silenced\, or erased. \nDedicated educators\, the Trio gives masterclasses across North America and serves as Artists-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music. Jamie Parker holds the Rupert E. Edwards Chair in Piano Performance\, Annalee Patipatanakoon is Professor of Violin and Chamber Music\, and Roman Borys is Artistic and Executive Director of Toronto’s long-running chamber music series\, Music TORONTO. Their flagship educational initiative\, Listen Up!\, offers a unique opportunity for elementary students to discover their own capacity to communicate through the arts. Delivered over a full school year\, the program features workshops in poetry\, \nThis is the fourth concert in Guelph Musicfest’s 20th Anniversary Season.

SUMMARY:Helen Martin speaks at Royal City Quilters Guild
DESCRIPTION:Quilts and Their Stories\n\nRoyal City Quilters’ Guild’s own Helen Martin’s love of vintage/antique quilts began when her mother gave her wedding quilt to Helen and her its story. This was also the beginning of Helen’s hobby collecting quilts\, blocks and tops from the early 1800s\, four-block quilts from the 1870s\, crazy quilts from the late 1800s\, red work quilts from the 1920\,  and the beautiful 1930s quilts up to quilts she has made. \nVisit https://rcqg.square.site to purchase a $10 guest pass. You may credit this purchase towards your membership fee later. \n\n\nHelen’s Bio\nHelen began quilting in approximately 1965. Her mother made a quilt for our wedding in 1963 and had used the good corners of old flannelette sheets for filler. Then she discovered polyester batting and the tiny quilting stitches she make using it. She took our quilt apart and I helped her re-quilt it. This was Helen’s first attempt at quilting and she loved it. Helen has been quilting ever since.

SUMMARY:Paratopias On the Stage - Guelph Dance Festival
DESCRIPTION:Presenting Paratopias ON THE STAGE by Pratibha Arts for the 28th annual Guelph Dance Festival! \nCombining Kathak (dance) and Tabla (drum) rhythms\, Bharatha Natyam (dance)\, original music and video design\, Paratopias celebrates the inspiring possibilities of an inclusive and diverse world. Tradition meets contemporary expression with exquisite dancing\, live music\, and visuals for this riveting performance. \nChoreographed and performed by Bageshree Vaze alongside a team of masterful musicians and dancers\, Paratopias pays homage to the St. John’s Hindu Temple in which Vaze discovered Indian dance. \n“This was dancing where you kept noticing further felicities of style. Sometimes during a phrase Vaze would bring her arms into a formal arc\, and then\, a beat later\, turn her head and eyes to resolve the position and bring it into focus. It felt like an archer lining up a target\, then with a mere glance firing. […] Yet just as often she would bring arms\, head and eyes all into the same perfect alignment on the same beat. Here was spot-on archery without preparation\, striking effortlessly home.” – Alistair Macaulay\, The New York Times

DESCRIPTION:The Image Makers is a free monthly gathering of vidyeo and cinema makers who are dedicated to the craft of moving imagery\, with a particular focus on lighting design. \nThe next Image Makers session will explore how to film low light scenes. Working with in-camera ISO settings as well as small accent lights (i.e. candlelight)\, we will work together to make a dark scene look good! \nWhile no formal instruction is provided\, this session is a great chance to meet new collaborators\, try new techniques\, push one another to new levels\, and keep skills fresh. \nPlease email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions and/or accessibility concerns.
