We've been working hard this fall and got some exciting news that we want to share with the community!
Last night Guelph Arts Council took another step forward in securing 5500 sq feet of space in downtown Guelph to be re-developed as a multi-use arts space where artists, arts programmers and patrons can converge to celebrate the vibrant arts scene here in Guelph.
The GAC team stood before the Committee of Adjustment to request a minor variance for parking and use on the property and we are happy to announce that were successful!
We especially want to thank City of Guelph Development & Urban Design Planner Michael Witmer for his hard work on helping us activate this unique space for the arts in Guelph. The property presented some challenges and we are grateful for his support and determination.
With our intended uses approved, we are moving on to the next phase of the project which involves formal inspections of the property before lease signing. Once GAC is able to sign a lease, the raw space will be transformed into teaching and dance studios, a workshop room, dry artist studios, a gallery, and offices.
In support of this initiative, GAC was awarded a Façade Improvement Grant through the Downtown Guelph Community Improvement Plan. This grant is conditional on securing all planning approvals for this building and will assist us in making it more accessible, engaging and secure. Thank you to Economic Development for their continued support of the project and for understanding the positive impact that this initiative will have on the community.
Finally, we have one more giant thanks! We are thrilled to announce that Musagetes and the Guelph Community Foundation has awarded GAC a $10,000 community matching grant to support the activation of this new creative space. The funds will be released to GAC upon raising matching funds from the community.
This project is going to take an entire community to lift off of the ground so please think about how you may be able to contribute. If we can get through this next phase, the project is going call on skills and resources of all kinds.
