It is difficult for Jessie to define her work precisely, however she would say that it is inspired by her First Nations ancestry. In addition, a hybridity of identity is a subtle constant in her work as she seeks to articulate what it means to be 'Canadian' and simultaneously celebrating her Irish/Scottish ancestry. Jessie explores this through engaging with the land, stories, tensions and experiences of this place (that many call 'Turtle Island') in her work. She is a member of Aamjiwnaang First Nation but grew up in the country setting of Caledon, Ontario. Jessie now calls Guelph home.
