Redeemer University
For 40 years, Redeemer has been committed to a Christian undergraduate liberal arts and sciences education that develops the whole person. Redeemer has a robust program in visual art, a large gallery space with 3 professional exhibitions per year, and is planning to expand its offerings in digital design.

Redeemer Gallery
The art gallery is a place of discourse and encounter. Sometimes the work moves us with beauty and wholeness; sometimes the work is prophetically challenging, unsettling our habits and encouraging us to look at the world afresh.
One goal of the gallery is to showcase artists who express themselves artistically from a distinctly Christian perspective. In this way, Christian artists are encouraged and resourced to continue building their creative practices, and networks of creators are deepened.
The gallery also presents projects by artists from a wide range of perspectives. We have presented exhibitions by indigenous artists, artists of diverse faith traditions, projects about immigration and complex cultural identities. Forming a rich space of dialogue and exchange, exhibitions broaden our visions and forge connections across difference.
Themes of Interest
Our exhibition curator, Phil Irish, works with artists to create solo or group projects that are conceptually rich and visually innovative. You can propose a specific project, or simply introduce your work to us.
While we are interested in all submissions, some current areas of interest include:
- The intersection of faith and science
- Spirituality of the body
- The metaphor of “The Path”
- Poverty and privilege
- Contemporary photographic practices
- Interpreting Hamilton (the city) through new eyes
- Projects that engage the Bible in fresh ways
We pay artist fees (though not yet at Carfac levels) and budget toward transportation. That said, the budgets are not large – so most selected projects will be from Ontario.
Some artists give public talks, or classroom visits, which are also paid. As an educational institution, we are interested to discuss how your work can be foregrounded within our academic context.
Proposals should include:
- Cover Letter
- Artist Statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- Documented Artwork: 10 – 15 digital images. Images should be labeled Lastname_Firstname_##.jpg
- Image list for Documented Artworks, which may include links to videos.
- Optional: a specific proposal, either solo or group, geared to the Redeemer Gallery.
Send applications to Phil Irish, Gallery Curator, at [email protected]. Please use “Gallery Submission” as the email title.
