Innovative Arts is a dramatic arts studio for youth in Oakville Ontario. Innovative produces high quality youth musical theatre productions, On-Camera short films and specialized educational oppourtunities for their students.
Job Description
The Musical Theatre Teacher is responsible for teaching, motivating, and inspiring students taking part in Innovative Arts’ musical production, Into the Woods Jr. Their job throughout the nine-month program is to teach show material according to the director’s vision, help performers build confidence and skill, and facilitate positive relationships with and between students. They should have the flexibility to teach multiple disciplines and be prepared to work with various age groups and class sizes.
Teach
- Prepare learning material prior to rehearsal, as advised by the Director
- Follow the rehearsal schedule and help facilitate seamless rotation transitions by arriving prepared and working efficiently with each group to achieve assigned tasks/goals
- Build professional, but personal relationships with students, in order to understand their strengths and weaknesses and challenge them appropriately
- Use positive reinforcement to manage behaviour and adapt teaching styles, strategies, and program content to accommodate various skill levels and age groups
Motivate and Inspire
- Build confidence by reinforcing successful moments
- Instill in students a greater love and appreciation of the performing arts
- Help curate students’ skill sets and technique
- Encourage a strong sense of self-worth by helping students set and achieve high individual and cast goals
Communicate with Artistic/Management Team
- Connect with the staff team before and after each rehearsal to discuss rehearsal expectations/goals, student accomplishments/progress, upcoming plans/deadlines, and any other feedback
- Maintain open communication with management regarding any student/staff incidents or concerns (behavioural, social, health/safety, or otherwise)
Requirements:
A secondary school education is required.
A Vulnerable Sector Police Check conducted after September 2021 is required (reimbursement provided if a new police check application is needed)
Qualifications include:
- Extensive experience and training in music/dance/drama
- Piano skills and ability to teach private and ensemble voice is an asset
- Strong leadership and classroom management skills
- Previous experience teaching youth (experience teaching in an arts setting preferred)
- Experience performing in/producing live theatre

Wednesdays & Thursdays
4:45-5:15pm – Set-Up & Team Meeting
5:15-8:45pm – Rehearsal
8:45-9:00pm – Clean-up & Team Meeting
$22-30 per hour
