Open Studio is seeking Community Board Members

Apply by May 9th, 2022, at 11:59 pm EST

Open Studio, Toronto, is an Artist-Run Centre (ARC) dedicated to contemporary print. We offer accessible, inclusive and affordable printmaking facilities, programs and services for artists and the public from across Canada and abroad.

Open Studio is at a critical point in its history. We are working towards becoming a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organization, and we would like you to be a part of this change! Open Studio is currently seeking candidates to join our Board of Directors.

Open Studio is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. As an artist-run centre, a minimum of 50% of the Board is comprised of artists, and the other half is made-up of Community Board Members. Community Board Members represent the wider community, and Open Studio relies on them for expertise in development, finance, programming and marketing. Please note that it is not required for Community Board Members to have an arts background or prior knowledge of printmaking.

Every autumn, the membership elects the Board at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Board members will work with the Executive Director and staff to steward Open Studio as we move forward.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage in meetings that involve high-level discussions about strategic goals and conversations about operations
  • Provide guidance and oversight to advance Open Studio’s mission and strategic plan
  • Review and approve organizational governance policies and procedures.
  • Attend eight Board meetings per year and serve on the Board for a two-year term, and may be re-elected for a second two-year term if they choose
  • Serve on one or more committees (Fundraising; Governance; Programming; Marketing; Equity, Diversity & Inclusion; Health & Safety; etc.)
  • Guide and assist the staff through the Executive Director
  • Yearly review of financial statements from the Executive Director
  • Act as passionate advocates for Open Studio

Applications from all qualified candidates are welcome, and individuals from equity-deserving groups are encouraged to apply.

To apply: Please provide a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience, interests, and résumé / CV by Monday, May 9th (11:59 pm EST) to [email protected], with the subject header as “Community Board Member Application.” Please make sure to submit your files in PDF format.

Open Studio’s Executive Committee will make recommendations for each open position to the current Board and contact selected candidates. Please advise us of any accommodations needed to ensure you have access to a fair and equitable process and send questions to [email protected].

We look forward to your submissions, and thank you!
