He-Art on the Street 2016
By Sarah Goldrup
Thanks to whoever ordered the great weather for Art on the Street this year!
It was incredible to see Quebec Street transformed by the 14th annual Art on the Street, Guelph’s largest outdoor juried exhibition. Downtown Guelph was brought alive with colourful displays by local and visiting artists showcasing their fine art and craft. Furthermore, the street was filled with amazing food, the incredible talent of performers and musicians, and the thousands of visitors from all over Onatrio who came out to support the event.
The young and young-at-heart joined in the fun at The Children’s Art Festival in St. George’s Square with interactive programs the enable kids of all ages to discover, enjoy, and celebrate art.
Leading up to Art on the Street, the beautiful streets, shops, and eateries of Downtown Guelph displayed a sneak peek of our rich cultural community with a variety of artists and venues paired together for Art in the Shops.
Congratulations to this year’s Art on the Street award winners, with Best in Show to Mel Gausden, People's Choice Award to Jessica Masters, Best Booth to K-Lee Creations, Best Emerging Artist to Claire Burpee, and Honourable Mention to Karin Silverstone.
Artists, keep an eye out for the Art on the Street 2017 call for submissions which goes out in January.
Thank you to our event partner, The Downtown Guelph Business Association, and to our sponsors for making Art on the Street 2016 possible.
