Communications Specialist/Programming & Marketing Assistant
Do you have a strong working knowledge of digital and social media strategies, online marketing and communications, and event planning? Do you have a passion for the arts and community? Do you enjoy being part of a team with a friendly and casual work atmosphere where a “typical” day may not really exist? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
This position will support Guelph Arts Council in executing, growing and sustaining organizational programming/events and communications, serving Guelph-area artists, arts organizations, and the broader Guelph community.
What you’ll do:
- Assisting with the marketing, communications, planning and coordination of cultural events and programs, including Art on the Street, workshops, Historical Walking Tours, gallery exhibitions, and more.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies for GAC and member events and programs, including writing, editing, and distributing e-news articles and social media posts, and website updates.
- Collaborating with GAC staff and volunteers on program and communications committees, including taking meeting minutes and contributing to committee work plans.
- Targeted outreach to equity-deserving communities to extend services to diverse artists and to profile their artistic work through GAC communications channels.
- General day-to-day office duties as required (telephone and in-person greeting, responding to inquiries, tidying, organizing, email correspondence).
- GAC marks its 50th anniversary in 2025. The intent is to include a celebratory event for the community, which the Programming & Marketing Assistant can play a vital role in planning and executing.
What you’ll bring (and don’t worry if you don’t have ALL of this):
- A friendly demeanor, an open heart and an open mind.
- Strong organizational and computer skills, including proficiency with Google suite.
- The ability to work independently and to seek assistance/clarification when required.
- Experience with social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
- Experience with website and graphic design software (Canva) and online video conferencing platforms.
- Some administrative and/or customer service work experience.
- Note: Almost everything will be cloud-based, and the successful candidate may prefer to use their own computer/device

- Flexible hours and negotiable on-site location requirements.
- Encouragement to take initiative.

Compensation:
- Hourly rate is $17.20 with a total contract length of 280 hours (35 hours per week x 8 weeks).

Special Events Coordinator / Events & Venue Operations Assistant
Do you ever leave events thinking “I might have turned the volume down and moved the speaker to the other side of the room”, or “what a cool way to get so many people involved without too much pressure!”, or even “that cheesecake should not have been left in the sun for so long”? Do you have a passion for the arts and community? Do you enjoy being part of a team with a friendly and casual work atmosphere where a “typical” day may not really exist? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
This position will support Guelph Arts Council in executing, growing and sustaining organizational programming/events, serving Guelph-area artists, arts organizations, and the broader Guelph community.
What you’ll do:
- For the right candidate, this position could involve the start-to-finish design and eventual execution of a marquee event to celebrate GAC’s 50th anniversary.
- Assisting with planning and implementing existing GAC services and programs, including onsite event staffing and technical set-up/strike/support (basic stage, sound, and lighting) for any scheduled live events.
- Communicating (in-person, and via phone/email) as a point person on behalf of GAC for both users and prospective users of our event venue, including giving tours, providing availability/pricing information, assessing special requests, troubleshooting, etc.
- Targeted outreach to equity-deserving communities to extend services to diverse artists and to profile their artistic work through GAC
- General day-to-day office duties as required (telephone and in-person greeting, responding to inquiries, tidying, organizing, email correspondence).
What you’ll bring (and don’t worry if you don’t have ALL of this):

- Strong event planning skills, with the ability for blue sky thinking as well as scaled back practicality.
- Strong organizational and computer skills, including proficiency with Google suite.
- The ability to work independently and to seek assistance/clarification when required.
- Some administrative and/or customer service work experience.
