444Authors and Artists On Cross-Canada Book Tour Offer Literary Salon The Bookshelf is pleased to present a Literary Salon featuring three local authors and a multimedia artist on Thursday, September 4. CBC Literary Awards prizewinning writer Joanna Cockerline, originally from Guelph, will read from her new novel Still—a story of resiliency and hope, set in the unhoused and sex work communities—alongside Guelph author Tamara Jong, whose new memoir Worldly Girls documents the slow unravelling of her connection to her faith and the tragic history of her fractured family, shining a light into the dark corners of memory. Internationally-renowned filmmaker and writer Kevin Andrew Heslop will read from his new non-fiction book The Writing on the Wind’s Wall: Dialogues about Medical Assistance is Dying. Together, the books celebrate the possibilities and potentials life holds, and the joy that can be found despite hardship. The trio of authors will be joined by international multidisciplinary artist Leslie Putnam, whose interactive tactile and vibrational sculptures are inspired by the authors’ work—and meant to be held.

This community event is open to all.

The Literary Salon will be held Thursday, September 4 at 44 Suffolk Street West, the home of the founders of The Bookshelf. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the readings starting at 7:00 p.m., followed by lots of time to meet the authors, have books signed, and socialize with the community. Tickets, which are $10.00 plus tax to cover food, may be purchased at The Bookshelf. You are welcome to bring your drinks of choice.

The trio and an array of local authors and artists look forward to connecting with people at these events, celebrations of creativity and connection open to all.
