On September 18th, 2025, the Art Gallery of Guelph hosted an opening for the launch of their 2025 Fall Exhibitions. After having a fantastic opening for their summer exhibitions, 155,578 and Fuzzy Thinking, in May 2025, the gallery welcomed the community back for another evening of art and conversation.
There are four new exhibitions to experience this fall, Soft Internet Theory, Unsettling Conversation Collective: Reworldings, Glass, Concrete, and Stone, and Earth Dreams in Colour: Soft Explosions. Each exhibition is uniquely different in its own way, while larger themes of emotion and experience are woven throughout all four.
On the first floor, Unsettling Conversation Collective: Reworldings, curated by Alexandra Nordstrom, explores projects created by Unsettling Conversation Collective that encourage viewers to rethink and question traditional (often colonial) ideas about conservation. On the second floor, the first exhibition that greets you is Soft Internet Theory, curated by Tristan Sauer, featuring installations that incorporate various technologies, including facial recognition. These installations show how creative, personal, and emotional works resist the “Dead Internet Theory” and offer an alternative to cold and artificial internet: humanness and community.
Moving past, Soft Internet Theory, visitors find themself in a hallway containing Glass, Concrete, and Stone. This collection of work challenges viewers’ perceptions of beauty in regards to landscapes and questions whether works depicting urban elements in landscapes changes how one might see beauty within the landscape. At the end of the hallway the space opens up into a colourful room housing the final exhibition, Earth Dreams in Colour: Soft Explosions, curated by Alexandra Nordstrom. This collection of work encourages viewers to see beyond the vibrant hues and focus of the sensations evoked by them. The various land, water, and life depicted in vibrant colours offers viewers a chance to feel the world around them deeply.
All of the exhibitions center emotion and experience as ways of re-connecting, relationship building, and offering alternative viewpoints. They will all be available to view until January 4th 2026.
