Guelph Arts Council is pleased to collaborate with the University of Guelph’s School of Fine Art and Music and the Art Gallery of Guelph in presenting Opportunity Knocks: Re-imagining your Arts Career. How can arts students and emerging artists reimagine the careers they could pursue? What are the emergent, entrepreneurial, or unexpected career paths that arts grads have taken? A group of diverse arts trail blazers will share stories and lessons learned. Students, artists and creatives of all disciplines, ages and experience levels are welcome.  The Panel Discussion will run from 6:30pm-8:00pm followed by time to connect and enjoy refreshments.

Meet the panelists:

Paige Bromby is a painter and cultural administrator based in Fergus, Ontario, She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Guelph (2020).

Working primarily in painting, Paige explores her relationship to natural spaces in a digital age. She is interested in how familial spaces appear through her own interactions within them, through a digital archive and as recorded and memorialized in paint. The many lives of a landscape – how those lives and interactions change through the seasons of nature and life.

She maintains her painting practice while continuing her work in community arts, facilitating a local critique night, working for various arts/culture organizations and co-founding an artist mentorship program for artists with developmental disabilities.

Patrick Cruz is an artist, educator, and albularyo who considers the role of spirituality, improvisation, intuition, and play as emancipatory tools to reify embedded colonial frameworks and ideologies in art making. Cruz employs meditation, divination, and hypnosis as research methodologies to exhume and retrieve hidden knowledge. His works are informed by the intersections of clown philosophy, magic, and the occult, and its syncretic manifestations and relationship in contemporary life. Most recently, Cruz has been making works using material retrieved from past-life regressions to navigate and side-step cultural and ancestral identity.

In 2021, he received the prestigious Thirteen Artist Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines and won the national title for the 17th RBC Canadian Painting Competition in 2015. He is an Assistant Professor in Studio Art at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus and the Daniels Faculty. He is the founder and co-director of the Kamias Triennial, co-curator of Ben Flores Fan Club Collective with Christian Vistan, collaborator at Boring Earth with Laila Fox, and one of the 19 members of the artist-run collective the Plumb.

​Daphne Zoe Dahlia / DAPH (She/Her) has been performing, composing, recording, producing, and mentoring artists for 20+ years. In 2017, she founded Copper Sound, a boutique recording studio in Guelph, ON, Canada. It serves as home base for her collaborations with artists locally and around the world. Daph’s work also includes musical directing for improv comedy, audio mixing for commercials, composing for film, voice over work, album art, photography, and website design. Daphne has been making new queer centred electronic music under the artist name DAPH. Her new direction combines deep vocals on top of hardware synths and samplers, bringing together elements of synth pop, house, hip hop, and darkwave.
