Guelph, ON – June 28, 2021. Guelph-based organizations, Bumaroo and Otherwise Studios present the artistic projects of the second annual Co-Create, a collaboration residency for emerging and established artists, musicians and creatives of all kinds in which residents are selectively paired with a creative in another field to collaborate virtually. All projects can now be viewed at www.cocreateresidency.com and a virtual showcase of the works and artists speaking about their projects can be viewed on YouTube.

Co-Create launched its first residency in June 2020, in response to the impact of COVID-19 on the creative community. Looking for ways to keep artists inspired and connected, Otherwise Studios and Bumaroo teamed up and designed this virtual residency program which provides pairs with guidance, structure, and access to a range of professional supports including equipment, materials, studio space, audio and video support, and other resources to help them produce and document their creative works. After a successful first year, Bumaroo and Otherwise Studios decided to team up again to host the program in 2021.

Eighteen (18) residents were selected to participate in Co-Create 2021, with creative practices ranging from music and visual art to comedy and dance: Aosiva & Callum Sheedy; Laundrymatcowgrrl & Animal Boy; Mei Lein Harrison & Kendra Marie Brophy; Laura Sones & Phil Irish; Justin Laguff & Teddy’s Atlas; Charity Cruz & Shëbåd; Brenda Reid & Lauren Prousky; Braeden Etienne & Emily Reimer; and Aimee Ruoff & Samson Wrote. Each pair worked collaboratively for one (1) month virtually, resulting in nine (9) capstone projects. The final works include books, video, animation, audio, and photographic documentation of physical artworks. “Seeing these projects develop and grow over the course of the residency is always a treat! We all feel really lucky to have such talented artists on board. The final projects have outdone our expectations!”, said Stephane Guenette, co-founder of Bumaroo.

Co-Create 2021 is grateful to our sponsors and supporters, who helped expand the program: Silence, Ontario Arts Council, Brothers Brewing Company, Good Company Productions, Long & McQuade, Wyndham Art Supplies, Art Not Shame, Renann Isaacs Contemporary Art, and Necessary Arts Collective.
