Douglas Street

According to Gordon Couling (as quoted by Cindi Conlon in her book A Limestone Trio) “Douglas Street provides an unexpected contrast to the spaciousness of Wyndham Street. The limited width is due to the fact that the street was not on the original town survey but was opened to Woolwich Street about 1845 to improve access to the District Court House. The street provides an impressive frame for the vista to St. George’s Anglican Church.  When the church was built in 1872, its tower was aligned directly with the centre of Douglas Street.”
