This course will explore the technical and artistic bounds of colour grading, and will teach certain philosophies behind creative decisions. The goal for this course is for participants to be well prepared to not only handle colour grading projects, but to have a solid foundation for study going forward. Participants will be taught how to learn.
Topics include
- What is the purpose of colour grading?
- Learning how to see in context : How to accurately assess an image.
- 3 Zone method of image processing ( Levels, Colour, Fidelity )
- How to study : Sourcing Reference Images, Skill Division, Full Cycle ( Your Own Flow )
This course is designed for those who have some grasp of colour grading. The focus will be allowing participants to bring artistic sensibility into their images. Once participants have completed this course, they will have the skills to create unique looks and workflows using a skillset that will grow with them in the long term.
Mattieau “MANIKK” St. Cyr is a multimedia artist that currently works as a director, cinematographer and colourist. He got his start in the VFX industry as a concept artist and matte painter, and he has contributed to projects such as , The Last Druid: Garm Wars, under Production I. G., and The Expanse. His colour grading education has been developed under instruction from TAC, Steve Yedlin, and through various commercial productions. He is also the creator of Manikk Realm, a brand and creative entity that serves as a vessel for storytelling through cinema, art, and music.
This workshop requires a studio version or a download of DaVinci Resolve.
