FreeJoin us for the opening party celebrating Entrelazados: Justin Favela and an introduction to the exhibition by the Las Vegas-based visiting artist. Investigating his own heritage and identity as a queer, Latinx, Guatemalan-Mexican-American born in the southwestern United States, Favela’s work remixes popular culture, lived traditions, and art history as a way to amplify the interwoven influences on personal and collective experiences. From sculptures to a new site-specific immersive installation, Favela adapts simple materials like cardboard, paper, tape, and glue to speak to the powerful interwoven legacies that shape one’s everyday existence and how they converge within collective histories of migration and community.
Marking the first exhibition of Justin Favela’s work in Canada, all are welcome to this free event; refreshments and a cash bar will be available. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the artist and explore the vibrant celebration of cultural heritage and creativity at the heart of his work.
