Guelph publisher Gordon Hill Press is launching its Spring 2023 titles on Wednesday May 7, 7:00 EDT, at the ArtBar (formerly the Ebar, above The Bookshelf) with readings by Emily Osborne and Jeffery Donaldson, along with guest readers Shane Neilson and Chris Pannell.
The event is free, and everyone is welcome.
Emily Osborne’s Safety Razor combines personal lyric poems with translations from Old Norse, its taut poems running like high-wires between the poles of terror and joy, danger and safety, erudition and naivety. Get a copy here – https://www.gordonhillpress.com/…/products/safety-razor.
Jeffery Donaldson’s Momento: On Standing in Front of Art is a series of short, lyric reflections offering a poetic daydream about the curious, otherworldly, but urgent and existential experience of art, artifacts, and the buildings that house them. Get your copy here – https://www.gordonhillpress.com/…/prod…/momento-preorder.
Shane Neilson’s Saving illustrates his personal experience of “madness” and describes his struggles with neurodivergence from the point of view of both patient and practitioner. In this poignant memoir about fatherhood, illness, and family, he shows that it is possible to not only escape the wreckage of the past, but to celebrate living with disability in the present. Chris Pannell’s Adventurize Your Summer!, is a wide-ranging look at travel, art and life. The author writes poems about the “Eastern Migrating Tourist,” and the indifference of the waters of the Nile, with many stops in between. It is filled with keen observation, touched with both sorrow and the wry observation that life is never what is promised in the marketing copy.
