Learn the basics of stop motion animation! This beginner-friendly workshop will introduce participants to the mechanics of stop motion animation which includes, straight ahead animation, onion skins, frame rates. This workshop will also cover basic lighting practices for stop motion, and the principle of animation: ease in, ease out. Gain hands-on experience in bringing toy cars and legos to life!
Participants will need a phone or tablet with a stop motion animation app such as iStopMotion or Stop Motion Studio, and a tripod mount. DSLR or Mirrorless cameras are also an option, but they must be paired with a computer stop motion program.
Fin Janleigh (she/they) is an award winning Canadian filmmaker with work in both live action and stop motion film. Her work often follows themes of environmentalism, friendship, and self-concept. Fin is also a freelance video producer, a theater lighting designer, and a podcast producer. She is currently a producer and director with Theatre Unmade, a Guelph based theater company creating theater opportunities for youth.
