Reel Stories, Ed Video’s documentary filmmaking program for youth returns this September with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. A group of youth participants (Grades 9-12) will meet for 8 sessions on a biweekly basis to create short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process, building skills in scriptwriting, conducting interviews, smartphone and camera-based filmmaking, lighting, audio recording and editing, while learning how professional-quality films can be created using accessible technology.

Skills in communication, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the program’s end in January, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film.

Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in this free program are encouraged to email [email protected] with any questions or accessibility concerns. Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended to secure a spot.
