Whether you’ve never picked up an SLR , a mirrorless camera or you’re a budding enthusiast eager to refine your skills, this workshop is tailored just for you. Say goodbye to relying solely on Auto-mode and embrace the journey of unleashing your creative vision.

Through a blend of engaging theory sessions and hands-on practical exercises, Kal will guide you towards mastering the fundamentals and tapping into your inherent photographic talent. Join us and embark on a fulfilling exploration of photography, where every click captures not just an image, but a moment of artistic expression waiting to be discovered.

This course INCLUDES 1 month of free mentorship where you will be able to contact the instructor directly to share your pictures, get tips, troubleshoot any issues you’re facing. HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • Master the pillars of exposure: ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, learning to make creatively correct exposures. Explore various metering types and the art of exposure compensation, empowering you to seize control over your photographic narrative.

  • Immerse yourself in the world of lenses, from wide-angle wonders to telephoto treasures, each offering a distinct perspective to enrich your compositions. Unearth the secrets of composition basics, where every frame becomes a canvas waiting to be adorned with your artistic sensibilities.

  • Navigate the diverse terrain of lighting conditions, from the soft glow of golden hour to the stark contrasts of midday sun, armed with techniques to adapt and excel in any setting. Embark on a journey of discovery and mastery, where the artistry of photography meets the science of light.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

  • Your camera, regardless of brand and model (DSLR or Mirrorless)

  • Spare batteries and a charger

  • At lease 2 memory cards

  • A kit lens (preferably a zoom lens that has a range of 18mm to 55mm

  • A telephone lens (eg. 70-200mm)

  • 5 pictures you’d like critiqued and discussed

  • Food (coffee/tea and bagels along with lunch (a selection of vegan, gluten free and non vegan options will be provided and included in the price.  If you wish to bring your own lunch, please feel free to do so at your cost)

  • On-camera flash (eg. speedlites)

  • A sturdy tripod (if you have one.  if not, dont worry…we can share)

  • A cleaning kit (if you have one)

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

How long is it?

  • This is an 16 hour workshop that is either broken down into 2 full days (8hrs/day) or spread out over 4 days of 4 hours each.

Do we get hands on?

  • Yes!! While there is a lot of theory involved, there will be plenty of hands on practice, with your instructor as well as in a group. over 70% of this workshop is hands on.

What if we get hungry?

  • For workshops that are scheduled for 2 full days, lunch and drink will be provided along with coffee and donuts in the morning.

What about afterwards?

  • This workshop is the stepping stone to getting you acclimatized to your camera and ready to take on more advanced workshops.  Whether its for studio work or on location portraits.
