The Untold Genre

The Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) is proud to present The Untold
Genre live in concert on February 22, 2026, marking the launch of its new Youth
Concert Series and a meaningful step toward building stronger cultural bridges between
Guelph’s legacy arts institutions and communities that have not always been fully
served by them.
This special afternoon concert is intentionally programmed to honour the rich and
diverse musical heritage of South Asian traditions, while also celebrating their vibrant,
evolving contemporary expressions. Through this event, GYMC seeks to create space
for dialogue, participation, and shared musical experience—grounded in respect,
curiosity, and genuine inclusion.
The Untold Genre (TUG) is a Toronto-based fusion band known for weaving together
Indian classical music, Sufi traditions, folk, Bollywood, regional styles, and
contemporary influences into a powerful and immersive sound. Their work reflects both
deep cultural roots and a forward-looking artistic voice, making them an ideal partner for
GYMC’s vision of accessible, community-centered music-making.
“This concert is about more than a performance,” says Damian Weston, Executive
Director of the GYMC. “It’s about listening, learning, and acknowledging the incredible
musical knowledge and creativity that already exists within South Asian communities,
while inviting connection with broader audiences. We want young people—and the
community at large—to see themselves reflected on our stage.”
The event takes place at the Recital Hall at the Guelph Youth Music Centre (75
Cardigan Street, Guelph) and features not only a live concert, but also a hands-on
workshop and an open mic, reinforcing GYMC’s commitment to participation over
passivity.

3:15 PM — Workshop with The Untold Genre
3:45–4:15 PM — Open Mic (open to all audience members)
The open mic portion invites anyone in attendance to step forward—whether to sing,
play, recite, or experiment—further reinforcing GYMC’s belief that music is a shared,
living practice rather than a one-way presentation.
This concert officially kicks off the GYMC Youth Concert Series, a new initiative
designed to amplify diverse voices, create welcoming entry points into live music, and
foster meaningful cultural exchange through performance and participation.
