10C Street View

One of many amazing things about GAC’s relocation to 10C Shared Space is our new access to space for exhibitions. Our first exhibitions in the space celebrated the work of emerging artist participants in the Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project, our partnership with the University of Guelph’s School of Fine Art & Music. In the summer of 2019 our four exhibitions celebrate the work of emerging and newcomer artists, as well as Art on the Street award recipients. We’ll resume our exhibition program in November and December, and have two exhibition opportunities remaining for GAC member artists. Guelph Arts Council invites member artists or curators to submit proposals for two-week exhibitions in the fall of 2019 or in 2020 (July, August, November, or December).

In 2019, GAC is grateful for funding from the Guelph Community Foundation – Musagetes Fund to support the exhibition program. The exhibition opportunity includes the space for a two-week exhibition and two-hour opening reception, a modest artist’s fee, and a limited budget for marketing, supplies, and refreshments. GAC has applied for additional project support for 2020.

Well lit, accessible, centrally located and with lots of foot traffic from really
diverse audiences, 10C Shared Space is a unique place to host an exhibition.

Guelph Arts Council and 10C have in common the conviction that the arts have a role to play in social change, and that collaboration strengthens communities. Similarly, The Guelph Community Foundation – Musagetes Fund supports arts projects that address issues of the under-served and under-represented in our community, or that promote and enhance sustainable environmental practices. While artists and curators may propose exhibitions on any theme, priority may be given to projects that align with these priorities.

Exhibition proposals to Guelph Arts Council need not be fully detailed, as project plans can be fine-tuned with support from GAC. The applicant will be responsible, if selected, for implementing the final project.

To propose a project, describe your idea in an email to [email protected], including the intent and details you consider critical to the project. Images (3 – 5) of your current or proposed work and links to your website or social media channels would be appreciated. If the idea is potentially feasible and would be a good fit for the space, you’ll be asked to provide more details including timelines, additional images, info about artists/participants, and what costs you anticipate. Projects that incorporate multi-disciplinary and multi-media work, including elements of collaboration and community engagement, are encouraged. Please contact GAC staff if you have questions about work or activities that the space can accommodate. If your project is selected, you’ll work with GAC to fine-tune details, and will provide GAC with a curatorial or artist statement that can be posted with the exhibition and used in communications about the project.

Proposals received before September 30, 2019 can be considered for fall 2019. Late applications will be accepted and considered for 2020 exhibitions. Artists and curators are welcome to secure their own project funding through sponsors, grants, or other sources. Depending on the response to this new program, an independent jury of arts professionals may be engaged to support the selection process.

Lead applicants (artists or curators) will be Artist members of Guelph Arts Council, who reside and/or practise in Guelph or Wellington County, but their collaborators need not be. Not a GAC member? Join here.
