Board of Directors

For over forty years, Guelph Arts Council has fostered a collaborative arts community in Guelph. Today Guelph is one of Canada’s great creative cities, and GAC is proud of the part it has played in that success. However, like our city, we are looking toward the future, determined to set a course that best serves the creative community that inspires us. As we head into a new planning cycle, and into our Annual General Meeting in May, we’re looking for three inspired and enterprising minds to nominate to our Board of Directors. Specifically, we’re looking for community-minded, skilled collaborators who are passionate about the arts and committed to pursuing opportunities.

Think you have what it takes? Email your resumé and letter of interest to [email protected] and a member of GAC’s Nominating Committee will contact you to arrange a meeting. Interested but want more information? Contact Patti Broughton at [email protected] or 519-836-3280. Board nominees will be selected by April 30. The slate of nominees that will be presented for election at GAC’s May 19 AGM will be mailed to all current members by May 5.

Doors Open Guelph

Doors Open Guelph is a day-long celebration of Guelph’s finest buildings, creative spaces, and artistically or architecturally relevant sites. Presented annually by GAC since 2002, the program showcases and celebrates Guelph’s hidden gems, as well as our great resources, businesses, and creative spaces. On average, Doors Open Guelph attracts 6,000 people to its sites each year, 25-50% of whom are visitors to the city. Since its inception, Doors Open Guelph has been part of Doors Open Ontario, an Ontario Heritage Trust province-wide initiative that was also launched in 2002 to celebrate community heritage. Doors Open Guelph has had the distinction of being the kick-off event for Doors Open Ontario, opening the province-wide initiative for several years.

The 2016 event will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Site details are posted here.

One of the main reasons for the past success of Doors Open Guelph has been the enthusiasm and hard work of volunteers who have served as tour guides, sweeps, greeters, counters, researchers, sign crew, photographers, and more.

We profoundly thank the 50 people who have already signed up to volunteer at this year’s event. Fifty means we’re halfway there, so we still need you! High school students, adults, seniors, all are welcome. Volunteer shifts on event day are 9:30 – 1:15 or 1:00 – 4:30, and advance training is provided.
