Guelph Arts Council and University of Guelph School of Fine Art and Music Announce Winter Round of Young Artist Mentorship Project

In 2017, with support from Ontario150 Partnership Project, Guelph Arts Council and the University of Guelph School of Fine Art and Music completed the first two sessions of the Guelph Young Artist Mentorship Project, a collaborative project that supports young artists in the critical transition from university to professional life. In continuing the project, GAC and SOFAM are grateful for support from the RBC Emerging Artists Project. The RBC Emerging Artists Project helps artists bridge the gap from emerging to established, and supports organizations that provide the best opportunity to advance their career trajectory.

Applications for the Winter Round of the project, which begins in January, are now being accepted. Guelph visual and media artists, musicians, and cultural managers are encouraged to apply as mentors or young artists. Established artists may apply online as mentors, and young artists may apply online to be mentored. Project and eligibility details are included in the online application forms. The deadline for applications is Sunday, January 21, 2018.

Through the first two rounds of the project, 21 young artists, musicians, and cultural managers were mentored by established creative professionals from our community.

Participant Noelle Lalonde said of the project: “I always thought I had to live in Toronto to have a successful career as an artist but I know now that isn’t true. … Because of this program, I have two shows lined up for 2018 and have been introduced to so many fabulous established artists in Guelph, including professors from the university.”
