Guelph, ON July 10, 2018 – This summer, six emerging Guelph artists and curators have worked with local mentors in the fourth round of the Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project. Fractured Remnants is an exhibition of work created and curated by these artists, and a culminating event for the summer round. Works by visual artists Christine De Vuono, Katie Owen, and Ahmri Vandeborne, co-curated by Peter Flannery, Carolyn Hickey, and Ross Jennings, will be exhibited at the Boarding House Gallery. The exhibition runs from July 23 – 27 at 6 Dublin St. S, Guelph, with a reception on Thursday, July 26 from 7 – 9 pm. GAC and SOFAM are grateful for project support from the RBC Emerging Artists Project.

Fractured Remnants considers the intersections between humans and material impressions. Together, the work of the three artists examines the driving force of humanity through an exploration of cultural remains and our interactions with materials.

The Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project supports emerging artists in the critical transition from academic to professional life. Emerging musicians, cultural managers, and visual/media artists work with local established-artist mentors to develop the professional networks and business skills they need to build careers as creative entrepreneurs. In 2017 the project was launched with support from Ontario150 Partnership Project, and has continued in 2018 with RBC support. Over four rounds, the project to date has supported the careers of 32 emerging artists, including senior students and graduates of SOFAM as well as other Guelph artists, and engaged 20 artist mentors.

Artists interested in the program are invited to contact Guelph Arts Council at [email protected] or 519-836-3280.
