At Rivermead, 19 Cedar Street, Eden Mills
Home of the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival
Is a picture worth a thousand words? Come to the mystery auction to find out – a mystery auction featuring the artwork of more than 30 Eden Mills Writers’ Festival Alumni, including Leon Rooke, Arthur Black, Claire Cameron, Emma Donaghue, Heather O’Neill, and many more well-known Canadian authors.
We invited authors to think outside the book and create a small piece of art for auction. Bidders will not know the identity of the art’s creator until the big reveal at the end of the evening. Authors have provided a small clue in their work of art, so part of the fun will be in trying to detect which author created which piece of art.
For a complete list of participating authors and a preview of their art, visit emwf.ca/artauction.
A silent auction will enhance the fun with intriguing prizes like a Summer Read package, a Sweet Deal, a walk-on part in a local play, an animal walkabout, and a unique and precious piece of art and first edition book of poetry created by Margaret Atwood.
Well-known local auctioneer Robert Milburn will enhance the evening’s fun with his auction skills and enticing patter.
All proceeds go to support the development of Rivermead, a historic stone chapel and venue for literary, cultural and social events. Built in 1861 by the Methodist congregation, it has been preserved and renovated as the Festival’s headquarters and a beautiful community resource. See rivermead.ca for rental and event information.
Tickets for the auction are available at emwftix.ca, or at the Bookshelf. Your $20 ticket includes a complimentary drink and hors d’oeuvres. Call 519-341-4320 for information.
Come for the mystery, for the unique art – and for the fun!
