10C Shared Space (10C) is currently seeking a Farmers’ Market Community Engagement Assistant to join the team. Working as part of the 10C and Farmers’ Market team, you will support communications and events at the Guelph Farmers’ Market and 10C.
Responsibilities will include:
Market logistics for Thursday and Saturday Markets:
- Support site set-up (and take-down) including preparation of all areas of the facility in advance of market opening, including support for vendor set-up, wayfinding materials, and maintenance before, during and after markets
- Support tasks related to market execution, including responding to urgent vendor concerns, maintaining a clean and safe environment and other duties as needed
- Support vendor invoicing and payments using online and digital platforms
- Support the set-up and execution of other events taking place on market grounds, including community meetings, food events and other market related events
- Be available for customer questions and support during markets
- In collaboration with the 10C and market teams, take initiative and think creatively about ways to improve market operations
Other events:
- Help plan and execute events at the Market that are outside of the weekly Farmers’ Markets including community meetings, vintage markets, craft fairs, trade shows, Market Haunt, etc.)
- Ensure the space is ready and accessible for community use and be available during events for support needed, including set-up, wayfinding and tear down
- Offer insights and ideas for other market events and activities, including community uses and programs that may support community food learning and food security
Outreach:
- In close collaboration with the 10C staff team, the Farmers’ Market Engagement Assistant will get to know the market vendor community to develop engaging stories through digital media (blog, newsletter, social media) including writing content and taking photos and videos and linking to collaborators to extend networks
- Support the development and distribution of both 10C and Farmers’ Market newsletters, and printed promotional materials highlighting updates available on Saturdays for vendors and customers
- Think creatively about ideal promotional channels and messaging for 10C and Farmers’ Markets and additional events
Other tasks and responsibilities:
- With support from 10C team, create and schedule content for social media using design templates and scheduling programs
- Support 10C communications and social media as needed
- Support with 10C events and programs as needed
The Farmers’ Market Community Engagement Assistant will bring these experiences and abilities to the role:
- Availability to work (most) Thursday (3-8pm) and Saturday (7am-2pm) markets
- Commitment and enthusiasm to working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team
- Experience in or enthusiasm for customer service and/or food service
- Exceptional people and communication skills with experience in social media marketing, story-telling and copywriting
- You are a problem solver, can take initiative and like to think creatively about ways to increase community engagement in local activities
- You have great attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Experience supporting community events and meetings with tasks like set-up, take down and anticipating a variety of needs
- Comfort and familiarity with software programs like Google Workspace, Customer Relationship Management software, Canva and / or Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience creating content for various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or other networks
- Experience with photography and/or creating video content is considered an asset
- Some physical labour will be a part of this role (i.e. moving tables, setting up tents)
Compensation and Details:
- This is a part-time role based on 24 hours/week at $22.50/hour
- Hours of work will include some evening and weekend work in line with market hours – especially Thursdays 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays 6:30am to 2:00pm; other weekday work hours can be scheduled in mutual agreement
- The work location is onsite at 10C Shared Space at 42 Carden Street and at the Guelph Farmers’ Market at 2 Gordon Street, Guelph
- Farmers’ Market Assistant may be required to use their own computer for this role
