75 hours @ $20/hr
July 8 to August 15, 2024: This is a temporary contract position for the period leading up to and during the Guelph Fringe Festival, with the heaviest workload during Festival weekend August 8-11, 2024.
The Festival Assistant will report to the Festival Coordinator.
Job Outline:
The Guelph Fringe Festival is seeking a dynamic and creative Festival Assistant to join our team and play a key role in running and promoting the Festival. The Festival Assistant will provide tactical support to ensure the success of the Festival through effective administrative duties and marketing initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Festival Committee, artists, sponsors, and the community to enhance the visibility and function of the Guelph Fringe Festival, running August 8-11, 2024

Responsibilities

Promote the Festival through the installation of physical materials (posters, brochures, etc.) with a focus on the downtown core, as well as update Guelph’s online community calendars with Festival information, including show details.

Book and run “booth” at other public summer events and at the Guelph Farmer’s Market

Communicate with past and current Fringe patrons and supporters through use of e-blast emails and community engagement during other public events and Farmer’s Market.

Assist the Fringe Committee with administrative duties including scheduling vendors, events, deliveries, etc.

Edit and proofread marketing materials for the Guelph Fringe Festival Committee including physical materials (brochures, posters, etc.), digital media (guelphfringe.ca and social pages), volunteer packets, and other print work.

Order and pick up marketing materials (posters, brochures, etc.) and tools and supplies needed for the Festival weekend (Guelph Tool Library, River Run Centre, Guelph’s community theatre groups)

With the Festival Coordinator, set up and tear down venues at the start and finish of the Festival, and act as “runner” between venues during shifts throughout the Festival weekend.

Lead volunteers at the Festival Booth to share information about the Festival to the downtown community, and act as Venue Lead during break coverage

Other responsibilities may be as assigned as needed to support the Festival.

Submit a final report by August 15, 2024 with recommendations for future consideration.
Qualifications

Experience in administration, communication, and promotion.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, team environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Creative thinker with a passion for the arts and community engagement.

Knowledge of the Guelph arts scene and/or experience working with festivals is an asset.

Valid drivers license required.

Must be available to work in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, during months of July and August, including some weekends and especially during the Festival weekend: August 8-11, 2024.
