This role reports to the Director / Curator. The role of the Storytelling Coordinator is to manage the stories that preserve and celebrate the legacy of Homer Watson, along with his sister Phoebe and the Doon School of Arts. This will be accomplished in two parts.
Firstly, you will be responsible for generating and managing engaging stories promoting and sharing programming, events, markets, and exhibitions across platforms such as Instagram, and Facebook. Through the coordination, execution and delivery of marketing campaigns, you will support programs, exhibitions, donations and memberships at HWHG ensuring that these meet or exceed revenue and attendance targets. You will spend 4 days a week creating and posting stories. You will analyze, evaluate and track results to ensure engagement targets are met.
Secondly, the Storytelling Coordinator will spend 1 day a week overseeing the general care of collections tasks, the organization of collections related records, incoming and outgoing artifact procedures such as donations and loans, and historic research. These duties allow for the collection to be preserved and made accessible for continued public enjoyment and study.
Key Responsibilities:
- Story Content creation – Develop engaging stories tailored for social media platforms supporting programming, events, the collection, memberships and donations.
- Sharing the stories of the HWHG Collection through:
- Oversight of the storage, organization, and care of collections, including environmental monitoring and preventative conservation tasks.
- Manage the collections database. This includes cataloguing and digitizing artifacts.
- Process donations, loans, accessioning artifacts (approximately 1-3 objects a year).
- Create collections-based social media and website content.
- Strategy development – Plan and implement social media campaigns in alignment with goals and objectives.
- Engagement – Monitor, engage with, and grow online community. Drive attendance at events and programs.
- Reporting and analysis – Track and report on performance metrics, adjusting strategies as necessary.
- Collaboration – Work closely with other team members to ensure cohesive branding and campaign messaging.
- Return on Investment – Evaluate and implement improvements to achieve higher impact and return.
- Assist other teammates and public research inquiries when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree specializing in one of the following: Museum Studies, Arts Management, Business, Marketing, or other relevant programs. Post-Graduate Certificate in Cultural Studies, Museum Studies, or Marketing would be considered an asset
- 2 years of experience in a marketing coordinator, collections or related role.
- Knowledge of marketing and communications concepts, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of collections management principles including experience with artifact handling, documentation, storage and research.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of electronic platforms including Microsoft 365/Office suite, Meta/social media/social media management platforms, media monitoring platforms, graphic design tools (i.e. Canva), audience research platforms, marketing automation platforms (i.e., Mailchimp), Hobo, and PastPerfect.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work under tight timelines or with changes in priorities.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a cross-functional and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Ability to work outside of regular business hours as needed.

- Knowledge and passion for visual arts and working in a museum environment is considered an asset.

Salary:
The salary for this position is $44,000. On successful completion of a 3-month probation period, you will also receive employee benefits including: group medical and dental benefits, paid personal/sick days, paid vacation days, and paid time off for recognized statutory holidays.
Due to the nature of the job, some evening and weekend work will be required.
