Brady is an artist, woodworker and communicator. The majority of his artwork is abstract, organic and asymmetrical. He is inspired by the rawness and order of nature. He primarily works with dry media which determines the flow and form of his expressive pieces. Each work represents a particular moment in time and a particular feeling, and regardless of what that emotion is, the doors of creation are opened. Through his work he connects with people seeking a deeper relationship with the objects they surround themselves with. His woodworking business, Konifer Design, designs minimalist, mid-century pieces mainly derived from reclaimed lumber.

Background
I hold a BAH from the University of Guelph in history and studio art, and post-graduate corporate communications certification from Centennial College. I also studied continuing education woodworking courses at George Brown College. I’m currently engaged in painting, drawing and woodworking, with an interest in both expressionism and minimalism, and the friction between them. Plus, I own a boutique woodworking and artwork business, Konifer Design.

While studying studio art in university in the early 2000s, I gravitated towards drawing, and as such became fascinated with capturing shape, flow and form through various time-driven drawing exercises. I explored dry media, and was drawn to their different weights, textures and the movements they made on paper. I tapped into a free flow state in my creativity. Each line, each texture and each stroke impacted the next, leading to a fury across the page: this capturing of an emotion in a thought-free state fuelled my artistic passion and brought me peace – and still fuels me today.

Approach
My artwork is created with raw, limitless power. I love the element of creating something quickly and letting each stroke determine the next stroke. I do not want to over think things, and will even let the first stroke determine the entire direction of a piece. If I do have a plan, I allow the nature and power of the media guide me. My philosophy is to tap into emotional energy – good, bad and everything in between – and enter a mind-body connection where I find peace…and that is what art is to me.

My current nature-inspired drawings blend minimalist, sketch-like trees (painted furiously, quickly and freely with India ink) with a linear, geometric backdrop (made with pen) which reflects my love for nature’s rawness and duality of order. I’ve always had a deep passion and reverence for nature, and the mathematics that live within it. My abstract pieces capture my free-form, playful and emotional states. These drawings are made with a vast mix of dry media and tap into the rawness of emotions.

Through furniture design I explore people and purpose, with a careful eye on the environment. My love and deep passion for nature, music and entertaining inspires me, and I design products for people seeking a deeper relationship with the objects they surround themselves with. I use reclaimed lumber as much as possible and use all species of wood but enjoy the beauty and richness of cherry wood, wormy maple and reclaimed pine. My work is minimalist and mid-century inspired.
