I grew up in Caledon, Ontario, in a family where art was part of everyday life. My father, William Fowler Wells, was a landscape watercolour artist whose work was an early influence on my appreciation of the Canadian landscape and the expressive possibilities of painting.
After a career in graphic design, I returned to painting following retirement in 2020 and now work from my studio in Fergus, Ontario.
My paintings move between realism and abstraction, interpreting rather than simply reproducing the landscape. I often begin with a feeling, a colour, or a fragment of memory, building the image through layers of paint, scraping, erasure, and revealed marks. As the work evolves, forms shift between the recognizable and the imagined, creating atmospheric spaces that invite viewers to pause, explore, and make their own connections.
My work has been selected for national and international juried exhibitions and has received recognition through several awards. I am an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and an Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. My paintings are held in private collections across Canada and internationally.
