‘Last Call’ is the result of invaluable mentorship between local established artists and our emerging artist participants over the past few months. The mentees have been working hard individually and collaboratively to bring this exhibition to life. We invite members of Guelph’s arts community and the public to stop by Boarding House to experience this lovely display of art and hard work.

Jay Wilson, Storyteller, transforms Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” into a poem called “Isn’t That The Dickens”. Complete with Scrooge, Cratchit, Tiny Tim and of course all the ghosts, this novella becomes “theatre of the mind” . Think of it as a radio play. Add wind, doors slamming, ticking clocks, rattling chains and assorted spooky sounds and you have yourself a new twist on a Christmas tradition.

A visceral performance centered around the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Ridge probes difficult but necessary questions about how and why we grieve. Through storytelling, theatre, and live music, the production examines misconceptions and varying perspectives about the battle, while drawing parallels to other formative events in Canada’s past.

Playing the Pipes, Musical Animals from Medieval Manuscripts

A workshop with Debbie Thompson Wilson! “Playing the Pipes” celebrates the whimsical animals and creatures pictured playing bagpipes in the margins of medieval manuscripts. Paint a small image adapted from medieval illuminations, using real gold leaf, watercolour, and ink. There will be a choice of subjects to paint; among them will be a cat, a fox and a gryphon.
