Some news from us at GAC. It has been a wonderful 2+ years in our “artBar” space, but the GAC Board has made the decision to not renew our lease at the end of June.
We are very grateful to the Minett family and our friends at the Bookshelf for their hospitality as our landlords since March of 2023, and we will be sad to leave our neighbours in the Bookshelf Cinema and Miijidaa as well. These have been trying years financially for the organization and staff has been stretched thin trying to manage the venue in a way that doesn’t compromise the organization’s long-term stability.
While our next home may not have the same technical amenities that we have now, we hope to continue to be able to offer year-round gallery and meeting/event space to our members and the community on a more manageable scale.
On that note, we are pleased to announce that we have signed on to take up residence inside Old Quebec Street Mall as of July. We will share more details on that in the weeks and months ahead, including plans for a farewell event at the artBar before we move on.
