Remembering Peter Watson

Written by Lisa Browning, GAC Volunteer Writer

Guelph resident and local author Peter Watson was known for his love of cars, was a master mechanic, and was known to enjoy an evening of dancing with his wife, Joy. A gregarious man by nature, he was also an inventor, innovator and dreamer, and was valued for his wisdom and advice. A lifelong resident of Ontario, he loved every nook and cranny of the province.

In 2013, when Peter first contacted me about a story he had written about his cat, Angel, my first reaction was “This would make a great children’s book!” And it turned out to be the first children’s book I published.

Angel Has Her Wings is Peter’s original full-length story, rewritten for younger children by Noah Nogueira, who at the time was a member of the Junior Humane Club. Noah, now 20, has rewritten the introduction for this new version, republished in memory of Peter, who gained his “wings” in 2021. Illustrations by Lauren Daly were added to enhance the story, and to provide an opportunity for a young aspiring illustrator to see her work in print.

As was the case with the first edition, all net proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to the Guelph Humane Society, as Pete would have wanted, and I was honoured to be a part of it, then, and now.
