Healing is Possible: Ten Things You Need to Know to Heal from Trauma, a new book written by local author and intuitive social worker, Sylvia Plester-Silk, is one you won’t want to miss. The book contains 10 chapters that guide readers toward inner healing. Sylvia highlights the energetic nature of existence, the fluidity of emotions, and the release from past traumas. She discusses how patterns affect behavior and offers strategies to overcome anxiety, including the Master Pattern Process for transforming ingrained habits. By exploring empaths and intuition, she empowers readers to embrace their strengths and recognize the transformative power of forgiveness and letting go.
Sylvia Plester-Silk has had a diverse career as a social worker. The author has worked in women’s shelters, welfare, as a parole officer, at addiction centers, and men’s treatment recovery homes. So, where does intuitive healing and energy healing, what her newest publication is all about, connect to her social work background? And more importantly, how do they work together?
In our conversation, Sylvia explained that her journey into energy healing began with a significant “aha” moment years ago. While working as a social worker, she mentioned a stubborn headache to a coworker who had recently learned about Therapeutic Touch, a form of energy therapy. This coworker offered to help using this technique, and Sylvia was astonished when her headache was alleviated. This experience ignited her interest in energy therapy. She went on to take numerous classes and courses in energy and intuitive healing, eventually starting a part-time practice alongside her social work. Today, she runs her energy healing practice full-time.
So, what exactly does Sylvia’s practice involve? Sylvia acts as a counselor, guiding clients to connect with their body wisdom and intuition to facilitate healing. She uses visualizations and affirmations to address and overcome negative patterns, creating new ones to address various traumas. Unlike traditional therapy, which often focuses on discussing problems, Sylvia’s approach aims at transforming these patterns entirely. Her goal is to help clients not just cope but fully change their patterns to achieve true freedom, by recognizing, feeling, and letting go of past traumas and emotions.
In her practice, Sylvia uses intuition to identify core issues causing negative patterns and assists in replacing them with positive new patterns. Her book provides similar methods for self-help, with ten exercises that readers can try at home. Her book allows readers to explore different techniques and find what works best for them.
So, Sylvia is a registered social worker, an intuitive energy healer, and now an author? This is her second publication. Sylvia admits in her book that she initially doubted her writing skills. It wasn’t until friends praised her writing and encouraged her to pursue it that she took the leap. Sylvia attended writers’ retreats and a nine-week writing class to improve her writing.
I asked if she considered herself an emerging writer, and she agreed. When I inquired if she had any advice for other new writers, she recommended seeking out courses or retreats like she did. According to Sylvia, these opportunities are crucial for improving one’s writing, gaining feedback, and overcoming the hesitation to start writing.
To wrap up our interview, I asked Sylvia what she would want readers to take away from her book. Sylvia replied that she hopes readers realize that change is possible and that they can feel better by engaging with one of the activities in the book. She also hopes they can sense the love written into the pages.
