Guelph Arts Council is proud to invite you to this year’s Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project Exhibition, Vanishing Points. This exhibition will be on display at the artBar December 1-20 with a reception held on Friday, December 13, 6:30-8:30pm.
Vanishing Points is the culminating efforts of participants in the Guelph Emerging Artists Mentorship Project and features the works of emerging visual and musical artists Dave Riedstra, Madeline King, Morgyn Roberts, Danielle Steed, Jamie Cardow, Gabbi Maria, Tim Campbell-Smith, Andi Syme, Chelsea Moore and Nico Valeriote.
Vanishing Points explores how the artist, both willingly and unwillingly, detaches, through their art making. Concurrently, the artist unearths bits and pieces of what they didn’t know they had been searching for, or what they aimed to identify when they started the work.
The vanishing points of artistic expression apply to the concept of how an artist leaves behind a piece of themself with every artistic work or act, and in turn, the audience is then capable of ingesting the art and discovering a part of themselves within it. A symbiotic relationship is formed between the artist, the work, and the audience.
The Dichotomy of uncovering and relinquishing, runs through both the artist and the viewer, which showcases art’s transformative power for all who encounter it.

The Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project supports artists, musicians, and cultural managers in the critical transition to professional life. Emerging-artist participants in each project round are mentored by established regional artists. Guelph Arts Council is grateful to ALL the mentors who have guided many emerging artists since the project began in 2017.
